    Shute Shield 2019

Beancounters are kind of important, in a bureaucratic sense. Do they win rugby matches?

    Global Rapid Rugby

Talk about a national club competition? We, or some of us, have been around this debating point a number of times. So far I have not seen or heard of a rational way to set up a national club competition, other than by creating new "club" entities. That was attempted with the ARC. I suppose...

    Global Rapid Rugby

It is not short-sightedness. The Sydney club rugby competition does what it is supposed to, it provides playing opportunities for lots of participants, of varying age and ability. That is why each club is required to field four senior teams and three colts teams every Saturday. The district...

Always nice to hear a bit of optimistic talk, mate. I did not make the original assertion, I was responding to it. And of course I had in mind the frailties of Foley, Cooper, Beale, et al. Cannot kick, cannot tackle.

    Shute Shield 2019

No surprise really, after all, club rugby is semi-professional, with a very heavy reliance on volunteer workers. The successful clubs attract more support, and vice versa. Of course there are a lot of other factors, but at the end of the day, success breeds success. Location helps, of...

Trickle up is the way to go, eh? I can only talk about my little patch. Eastwood has worked out that we have to trickle well away from our traditional home, towards the north, where there are still some people who grew up with the game and love it, warts and all. There are fewer and fewer...

    Season greetings etc

Not the start you would wish for, Dan (to use Greg Clarke's cliche). All the best. At least you are not an Australian rugby supporter (or cricket supporter). So thank you lucky stars for that, at least!!

    Waratahs 2019

Folau seems to have been a fairly promising league junior. I do not have an opinion one way or the other, except to say that we are not exactly replete with strong attacking wingers. Is there any proof that he has a contract because he is "related to a key player?" It might be worth bearing...

Or, on the other hand, like good builders we will make sure that we have good foundations. Forever improving.

A good clean-out might be just what we need. Rebuild from the bottom up.

Yeah, Izzy was such a flop.

    Waratahs 2019

Here's hoping. Hunt is a very good footballer, if he is okay upstairs he will be a terrific acquisition.
