    Shute Shield 2018

Not all that long ago, but sorry, cannot remember exactly when. We went to a game at Millner, and our twos were pretty strong, but by golly Gordon was very competitive. If I had to guess, I would say 3 or 4 years ago. Anyway, all the best. I was actually born in Eastwood, and we lived not...

Rugby also thrived in public schools in NSW. Well, Sydney, anyway. All the government high schools played rugby when I was at school. That was then. Things have changed, unfortunately.

    Shute Shield 2018

Gordon is a real puzzle to me. They had a really good reserve grade side a couple of years ago. They claim to have the most juniors of any district club in Australia. By rights they should be really strong, year after year. They used to be. Wish they were again, love those local derbies.

    Which would achieve what, exactly?

Mate, we just do not have the resources to financially support club rugby. How many "premier" rugby clubs are there in Australia? How much per annum do you believe that HO should pay to each of them? Multiply it out. What is the annual amount? Where does it come from?

Wouldn't it be terrible if Chubby is still the best available national coach?

You could coach the Poms and do better than most of their national coaches. I have always been fascinated by the fact that the most successful English coaches in the modern era have been Woodward and Johnson, both of whom spent considerable time playing in the Antipodes, where they would have...

Would it have been thus when JON was CEO? I doubt it. The organisation chart must show the head coach reporting to the CEO. Nothing else would make sense, in organisational terms. No decent operator would accept a job as CEO for an organisation whose board is going to make a crucial...

The only thing I can think of is that the players are getting too many conflicting instructions. Either that or we are just not good enough.

She is the CEO. If the buck for executive decisions does not stop with her, she should get out of the job. She is in a lose-lose situation otherwise. (Mind you, from where I sit, her position is pretty much untenable anyway). I cannot imagine what it would be like to be in that job. Talk...

Reg, Castle has virtually no background in our game. If we assume that she was the most qualified candidate, which is not a big assumption considering the challenges of the job, there was always going to be a problem of this nature. A judgement call, for which she does not have the...

Dave, The game started in England. They have always had huge numbers of players compared to just about everybody else. The RFU had the finances to own Twickenham, which sells out more often than not. Rivers of gold. The question should be, with all their natural advantages, why are they...

By whom? What would be achieved? If we look back over the last twenty years we have not exactly had a shining array of wonderfully successful national coaches.

JP is potentially a lot better than Rona, I reckon. But I agree we should hasten slowly. I agree about Kerevi, I would like to see To'omua at 10 and Kerevi at 12.

The half backs in the game between England and the Darkness gave master classes in box kicking. Off topic, I know, except in the sense that kicking is just totally underrated as a skill in our game. Chubby, of course, is still mired in the good old days when Randwick never kicked the ball.

Ranked number 47 in the world, recently beaten by Hong Kong 91-10. Amazing.
