    Waratahs 2013

Thanks for the questions that were offered but I didn't have time to ask many of them, at least in the form mentioned. By the time I got around to the G&G forum questions I had run out of time but I did get a chance to ask your question Braveheart - his eyes lit up when I asked it. The blog...

    Waratahs 2013

Yeah he was training last Friday - but the Wallaby forwards have had a very light load. They've been training together and not been at each other full blast though a few joined the full on segments of the other groups from time to time. The ones who came back a week early probably had the...

    Rebels 2013

Yeah - I've been watching young Freddie for a while and there's a whiff of Cipriani about him - the good parts - and a bit of Larkham. There have been some promising players taken on Lions tours over the years and I could probably name them as well as anybody, but it the main they take proven...

Also the great Tony O'Reilly who I saw play several times when he was in the 1959 Lions team. Went to an after-game function once in Dunedin and stood as close to him as I could because all the girls were around him and I was hoping for left-overs, but I drank scotch for the first time that...

    Reds 2013

Agree Ruggo and tranks. Ball playing inside centres, who can run as well, are uncommon. Those who are also left footed kickers are rare. Let Taps always play at 12 to give the golden balls. The Reds and Wobs will then find that their outside centres are better than they thought they were. .

    Rebels 2013

Not just about; he is the form flyhalf of all the candidates and will be the first picked. They'll select another specialist and also Farrell who can cover 12 in a matchday team as well - not that Sexton can't play there, come to think of it.

Now I get it - that is funny. Gave me an excuse to insert a couple of photos I took yesterday though.

Tell me in ain't true - Tahs have been league players?? .

rugbysmartarse You're right about that - I was at the game. Big brother had the same problems as did biggest (eldest) brother, Sione, who is with the Scarlets now. Lopeti's handling improved since then as did Sita's but I think Sita regressed in 2012. Eldest brother Sione. .

What I didn't realise at the time is that some union heads may not have known that the player Cheika was talking to was Roosters league star Anthony Minichiello. It was interesting to see some of the Rooosters players and coaches talking to the Waratahs guys when they were changing over at the...

    Waratahs 2013

Mine also - I class them as semi-pros - i.e. pros for part of the year. Playing for an ARC is not going to keep them in the country for long, but it could give them confidence that they can stake a claim to a Super gig on the back of it. At the same time they would know that it would give...

    Waratahs 2013

Good player (Randwick MVP) and a star ball runner at club level. The 2012 import from Victoria is training well with the Tahs, but he doesn't shift bodies, with and without the ball, as Lopeti does. But Lopeti has to watch his discipline at the ruck Talk is cheap though - let's see how...

    Waratahs 2013

It's hard to judge these lads at a young age Braveheart, isn't it? And let's not forget the young Greg was on the books for a couple of years only as an EPS player (or rather, that's how we would categorise these lads now.) We see young fellows rise up unexpectedly - with little or no...

2013 IRB Junior World Championship - France

Because of this series 6N U/20s will always have it over the 4N U/20s in the areas of pre-tournament training and the selection process. It's amazing how well the Kiwis always do, and the SAffers last year, not because of having such a series of matches but despite not having such. At the...

PS On Hooper. If all goes well I will do a Q and A with him on Friday. I have a few standard questions about: - compare and contrast the coaching style of Jake, Robbie and Cheik - differences in Brumbies and Tahs set ups - what he views as his strengths for the position he plays - the...

    Waratahs 2013

Well - I didn't hail him as a lock sensation as the poster said but I certainly mentioned that he was a fine schools player in 2009 - that he was one to look out for in Super Rugby. And ditto for his NSW Schools locking partner Luke Jones, the Qld prop PAE, Qld wingers Situati and CFS, Qld lock...

Removal of the Scrum Engage Hit is coming

Thanks for that - I will give it a good read later. Brian Moore is an ex-England hooker and solicitor who is one of the growing crowd of ex-international front rowers who are appalled by the modern scrum. He wrote an article about it a few months ago and I commented on it in a blog...

    Waratahs 2013

Agree - as I said in a blog last week: http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/waratahs-coaches-take-no-prisoners/ The best on-field skipper though, could be a back – Berrick Barnes. He is not shy about bossing folks.

Removal of the Scrum Engage Hit is coming

Dan 54 Exactly right Dan, and there is something else that I have been banging on about for the last 5 years on rugby forums - that now the dominant scrum is dudded time after time by skinny referees who have no feel for what is going on. It's not really their fault because of the problems...
