Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

Look - I think Hooper will be starting 7. He’s been too good for too long. But the format of the tests means I won’t be surprised if McReight starts one. I’ll stand by my assessment he was outstanding - if you didn’t think so, so be it. And I do agree it’s not all about stats and that they can...

Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

You could equally argue that is an example of how poor the eye test is. Wilson & McReight chopping runners all day was a big part of the win. What else did you want from McReight??? Did he have to kick the winning field goal? He was a deserved man of the match in a fantastic match with plenty...

Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

Not sure how Valetini ‘schooled’ Wilson, but ok. From a stats point of view ESPN has Wilson at 7 metres from 4 runs and Valetini at 14 from 8 - so exactly the same metres per run. Wilson made 10 from 10 tackles and Valetini had 10 from 11. I would have thought that Wilson’s last attempt on...

    Wallabies 2021

There was a fair bit of hype about him before he played test too. To be fair, I don’t really know what happened. He definitely looked comfortable at test level to start with.

I’m keen to see him get a crack and I agree he looks handy. But we’ve been here before. Coleman was going to be our saviour at one point. I’m not saying he won’t be everything people hope, but let’s wait until he’s had a few tests and see how he goes. And the good thing is we actually have...

And that along may tip the scales in Isaac Rodda’s favour at the selection table

Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

I’m happy to agree to disagree. I like what LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) does in those situations and I thinking we’re splitting hairs over exactly how Itoje or Etzebeth might handle it. If I was sorrounded by 6 opposition I’d probably try just smiling while I talked tough too :) With regards to Coles specifically, I...

Agree. I hope they can work the lineout out because I think they’ll both be great at test level. I think they now complement each other well. I know I’ve historically disagreed on Valetini but I’m well and truly converted. He is powering now. Great workrate with out seeming to have lost any...

Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

Like I said - he got in his face but never did anything that would cause a sanction. Your speculating that he was close to the edge but Salakai-Loto is always first into those exchanges and never does anything that will warrant sanction in those situations. And yes, I do think aggression...

Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

On Wilson - I agree. When I said nailed I just meant that he cut him down on the spot which is significant in itself when you look at Valetini’s impact. From memory the only time he tried to go high and put on a shot was when he got knocked out. I largely agree on Lolesio too. I didn’t quite...

I’m just imagining if that had have happened in front of Retallick, Itoje or Etzebeth.

Crap. LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) handled it perfectly. Got straight onto him to let him know the Reds wouldn’t by pushed around. Didn’t do anything that could potentially cause a reversal of the penalty. Fuck me - do we want our locks to be in physical or not.

Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

I loved the exchange. We want this guys to be into each other. Darcy Swain is looking increasingly likely to get Wallaby time. I want him out there pushing his weight around and not backing down. There really wasn’t much in the actual incident. I have no idea whether Swain heard the ref or...

    Wallabies 2021

Understand some concerns around Petaia’s ball security, but his defence is well above any other wing option and he makes some very important reads/tackles. Also, his impact is undeniable. At one point he ran the ball into a gang tackle by Neville & Valetini where they had a clear shot at him...

I thought so too at first. But then you look at the scrum before which was re-set twice, with both Ala'alatoa and Zander going to ground in quick succession. I’m confident Berry got each of the calls right, but there was definitely a risk Zander could have been done over by Ala'alatoa. It’s worth...

Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

One of the great things about the game was how much the Wallaby aspirants stood up. McReight, Tupou, Valetini and White all had great games but plenty of others right alongside them. I thought it was notable how Wilson nailed Valetini in defence several times (right up to the point where he...

Watch the replay. He puts his hand up as ASY (Angus Scott-Young) picks and you can clearly hear him giving multiple warnings to stay onside and then he calls offside. The confusion is because it is all in a two second window BUT he was playing the advantage. It is very clear in the replay.

Just one last point in the ref, right before ASY (Angus Scott-Young) picks and gets held up Berry does put his hand out for penalty advantage for offside.

In the press conference Thorn was asked specifically on the decision to take the taps not take a scrum and he said it was to take the ref out if it and avoid the risk of getting a call go against you.

It’s an interesting one. I think the consensus on here was that with Ala'alatoa v Zander there was a possibility of the Brumbies getting a penalty.
