    Queensland Reds 2024

Honestly I think we're a bit lucky to have held onto him - he's got heaps of talent, should be getting interest from around Australia and could probably make plenty in Japan. I expect that's the one year deal from his part, he's still very young but he'll be keen to be getting regular game time...

SA and Argentina want it moved to better fit their player's season with most of them playing in Europe now https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/rugby-bosses-consider-radical-date-switch-for-wallabies-20230322-p5cubc.html As far as the test window goes it's not a big deal, if the rugby...

Australian Bid for 2027 World Cup

True, I didn't think about the number of games per round. It'll probably favour Perth getting a fairly full load of games during the pool phase to take advantage of the timezone too.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Absolutely, and It looks clear that the best and most achievable option from a development perspective is an extended Super AU after Super Pacific. Beyond that I have a lot more faith in bot RA and the state unions to get the rest right if we can maintain some degree of stability and...

Truly impeccable vibes, everyone ecstatic to be there and focused on the rugby. We were sat in front of Nic Berry's family and his wife let us know early just to make sure we didn't go hard at him in front of his kids but it was never a problem, we were all there for the love of the game...

    Proposed Nations Championship

I like the pool logic as stated, particularly for keeping costs down, but it probably won't adapt so well to the addition of Uruguay and Chile. Maybe they'll look to 8 teams at that stage to keep it balanced, like @Jimmy_Crouch suggests, but with Aus A and All Blacks XV on the pacific side.

Not to mention a clear appetite for finals footy demonstrated as recently as 2021's Super AU final. There's a lot of work to be done around competition structures and product at super level, but to suggest there is no connection, tribalism or support for those sides is demonstrably untrue.

See, that sounds like a waratahs/NSW problem with fan engagement, I care a hell of a lot about the Reds and even with super rugby's missteps I still look forward to their season separate to whatever is going on with the Wallabies. More to the point an elevated club competition like the one...

    Australian Rugby / RA

It's been discussed before but those numbers are a fantasy, they ignore the massive increase in admin, coaching and staffing costs associated with an extra 13 professional teams and assume without much basis that there is both a near endless pot of sponsorship dollars to compete for and that...

    Proposed Nations Championship

If Japan and Fiji are to step up to the Rugby Championship and the Nations Championship first division in 2026 then hopefully Uruguay and Chile are bought up into this competition.

    Queensland Reds 2024

Yeah, when you consider our big losses in terms of departures are Tupou, Hoopert, Jones and Daugunu we aren't losing a lot year on year. Daugunu was the only one of those guys to play any minutes last year and while he finished the season strongly he wasn't exactly consistent throughout...

Australian Bid for 2027 World Cup

It looks unlikely we'll get them, but if we do have something domestic going it might be a good opportunity to draw in some visiting fans by playing those games mid week, even if it's just something like the u16s/u19s that's going on right now.

Australian Bid for 2027 World Cup

I'm not sure, there's one less team in each pool which effectively drops two weeks from pool play - the 4th game and the bye week, so there isn't necessarily a need for mid weeks games. They have said they'll maintain the mandatory rest period too, so I wouldn't hold your breath for them.

You say someone is going to do it so why shouldn't we get in first, but on that same note why would Apple pay for an entirely new competition based in a smaller market when they could get an established competition in a larger market like the UK or France? For example Premiership rugby...

This is around 5x increase on our current Super Rugby total player wage bill and similarly a 5x increase in the broadcast rights without a cent to spare to spend on the Wallabies, 7s, Wallaroos/women's or community game. It's a lovely pipe dream to think that money is available right now but...

    Ballymore Redevelopment

Yeah, I imagine the load over the last year or 2 while work has been going on has increased a bit on the training surfaces as well, not to mention it's not that long since the whole precinct was underwater.
