    Shute Shield 2019

The Wookie has been posting them on the ratings thread.

    Shute Shield 2019

And it got relatively good ratings comparatively to other games this season with 18k tuning in. Only beaten by the Uni/Eastwood game in Mudgee earlier this year.

With the restructure of the Top League which will also feature a change in schedule to align more with Super Rugby, GRR etc. Any Japanese involvement would be questionable at best. So any if this were to occur perhaps the AP Dragons would be another option. I actually think Super Rugby could be restructured to...

The way I see it. It would be 100% professional while providing the best from clubland a look in. Considering the ratings for Super Rugby it would certainly draw more eyes than the current NRC is. I'd even be happy to play it under GRR variations as they do help provide consistently entertaining Rugby.

It's partly why I've previously suggested a revised NRC format that involves our 5 plus the likes of Fiji and now Samoa. It's also why I think RA should allow GRR to have a 2nd team Aus. team in GRR. Allow both Super Rugby and GRR to run their scheduled/planned seasons and then take our 4 and those 3/4...

    The Israel Folau saga

I actually don't look at it as a question of intelligence. Never met the man so cannot make that assessment without data to support it. For me it's about arrogance. Not so much for what he said but his arrogance in the belief that he shouldn't have to suffer any consequences for saying it by...

Right there is where you've blown your argument apart. The Maroons are a rep team as they draw players from range of club for 3 games a year. They don't contract any of them. They don't train with each other full time. They are literally for SoO. They only select players who at the very least...

What you call ignorance I call acknowledging the realities of professional sport. But hey. Live in the past.

They may srill draw primarily from the Brisbane comp but the days of them being a true rep team have long since past. Rep teams don't contract players over multiple years. Or contract players at all. They like the Tahs have evolved into professional clubs\franchises.

Personally, I think it would be great combining the teams from the ITM Premier Div with our 5 plus Fiji but it would need investment and funding. With Super Rugby only running 16-17 weeks there could be opportunity to sell them the idea of an expanded TT competition at that level. Access to bigger...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

The 2nd MLR reached a worthy conclusion this morning. With Seattle emerging victorious for the 2nd year running scoring after the final whistle to secure a grandstand finish for what was a gripping contest. What made it even better was the electric atmosphere created by the sold out crowd which...

They're still important elements of the play. So there'd be reason not to continue to practice them. It's just defending teams cannot just hack the ball into touch now.

    Global Rapid Rugby

I agree. I've watched pretty much all the games so far and the variations work quite well and the ball is in play a good bit longer. At least it feels like it. Most games have around 1/2 as many line outs as Super Rugby which when you consider they take about a minute each there's the extra time right...

It'd be pretty fucking funny in my books. Would be interesting to see the NZRU and SARU's reaction to the news.

It would be hilarious if his turn toward GRR was a precursor for some big announcement that the Aus Super Rugby sides would from 2021 be competing in GRR.

Yeah, but back in those days NSW and QLD were proper state reps teams that played relatively few games each year. And in 1999 most of those guys came up through the club scene. So it did have a role to play in it. There are definitely other possibilities. The issue is whether there is the will...

    Australian Rugby / RA

No. But the Shute Shield alongside the Brisbane comp certainly won us the 1991 RWC and fed the Super 12 sides that helped us win the 1999 RWC.

I don't know if that's entirely the case just yet. I think we could still go down the TT plus PI route. But it would require the rights push for it to happen. And it would likely require using similar variations to that of GRR as a means of enhancing the better aspects of the game.

There are a lot of variables involved. That is for sure. I'm just pointing out that the argument around there not being the level of interest for a TT from a spectator perspective isn't supported by the numbers. The facts are that the games featuring SA teams outside of those competing against...
