    Refereeing decisions

Interesting to see that Stuart Berry, the worst performer over the last couple of weeks, has not been cut. All he got was a two week stand down. Someone on the referees selection panel is clearly protecting him - for what reason is just not clear. Maybe as he is more experienced than those cut...

    Sharks v Tahs, round 7 2014

That's going to be really tough for them. Sharks have to finish top two to win the championship and I can see the Bulls or Stormers running them down with a late charge now they don't have an experienced 10 to run their kick-chase.

    Sharks v Tahs, round 7 2014

Alofa or Betham? I'd play Crawford on one wing and Beale at 15 also, but as to which winger goes out, well its a really tough call. Both are playing very well, Betham is probably a better blindside winger (see his try last week) but Alofa has a magical step that is very hard to stop. I'd...

    Refereeing decisions

Berry, van der Merwe and Pastrana were obvious targets. Which games did Gardner ref and what did he do to be recalled?

    Rebels v Brumbies Rnd 7 2014

Not quite sure where to post this, but the Rebels are several classes above the other Super teams with their injury reporting. Very refreshing!

    Force v Chiefs Rnd 6 2014

Three reasons I liked this: I picked the Force in the tipping comp because I thought they were a genuine chance and I needed some unpredicted results to catch up on the table. This puts the Chiefs on the back foot in the race for the top two spot. Now we need a Tahs win next week to do the same...

    Tahs v Rebels Rnd 6 2014

We can say its wrong, we just can't prove it. :) Izzy's two greatest skills are his aerial capacity and his ability to support a line break or a timed pass with a devastating run. Both of those skills are more suited to fullback IMO. I think at 13 he would have less chances to use those...

    Waratahs 2014

And the Porterhouse steak was excellent!

    Tahs v Rebels Rnd 6 2014

Just back from the game, haven't seen it on TV. Arrived home very happy after the G&GR meet-up followed by a five point result. Some thoughts: I think the intensity of the game we are playing is starting to take a toll in fatigue. Last week was test-match intense and I think our recovery was...

    Brumbies vs Stormers S15 Round 6 2014

Stormers are an easy read. Very good defence, attack is clueless. Brumbies just need to bring last week's intensity (very hard to be that good two weeks in a row) and take points wherever they can. If the Stormers get a lead, they are very tough to beat; but they do not chase well. So, if...

    Tahs v Rebels Rnd 6 2014

Resurrection for the Tahs backline comes six days after the death in Canberra. Jeez I hope so. I'm just drooling at the thought of it! A couple of times last week Betham got some space and was almost gone. Alofa didn't get too many chances last week but that guy has a better step than...

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

I know where you're coming from Paarl, but if the Stormers can put 50 on the Brumbies team then I want them swabbed. I watched the Brumbies beat the Waratahs last week and they were awesome. If the Stormers can win by 50 then I'll put the house on them winning the comp; I doubt they've scored...

    Brumbies v Waratahs Rnd 5 2014

I agree. Brumbies were wilting at the end, but so were the Waratahs. The Hooper knock-on, which was the turning point in the last ten minutes was, I'm sure, just fatigue. Had he taken that ball we were on the charge and I don't think we would have been stopped. Then we got pantsed in the scrum...

Looking forward to meeting a whole pile of people who I know but have never met.

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Arguably maybe but I seem to remember that Wales taught us a lesson or three in the first game.

    Tahs v Rebels Rnd 6 2014

Most of the kicking for position on Saturday was very poor. Foley's pop gun is just not up to Super standard. I wonder whether Cheik might think about putting Crawford on one wing just so we have a decent clearing and penalty kicker. Crawford must now be up to speed after his rehab. Tough on...

    Refereeing decisions

Not wishing to start a Cooper-bash, but two seasons ago when he was getting a lot of flack for his tackling, he often went for a ball strip leaving one of his teammates to bring the player down. Worked occasionally, but it proved to have a low success rate.

    Waratahs 2014

Maybe the bandwagon is beginning to roll? Two more top class performances and I think lots of people will be scrambling for tickets.

Rebels vs Crusaders, Rnd 4, 14 March 2014 @ AAMI

You'd better add me to that list. I will never forgive or forget what Foley did to my Waratahs or Deans did to my Wallabies.

    Sharks v Reds Rnd 5 2014

These two sentences are mutually exclusive. Hanson started last week and was absolutely excellent all round the park. Fainga'a came off the bench and made two ridiculous schoolboy errors resulting in penalties. The correct coaching action would have been for him to be dropped from the bench for...
