Conference Finals Format: Fair or Farce?

The NBA changed their playoff format back in 2006 where the division leaders regardless of their record secures a playoff home series in the first round. The three division leaders in each conference plus the next best record team in the conference are seeded 1-4. That 1-4 seeding is based on...

Aus vs NZ - 1st Test Sydney 17Aug2013

Nothing to see here Blue..... :) As for the ABs, the backline from 11-15 will be the same one from test 1 vs France. Carter will come into 10 if he gets throught he finals okay. The two likely starting halfbacks - Smith and Weepu - aren't playing finals footy, so it could be a toss of the...

    Crusaders v Reds Prelim 1

Its a very settled starting lineup for the Crusaders. Donnelly did a decent job last week filling in for Romano, but Romano and S. Whitelock have played the majority of the season together and been in vey good form. S. Whitelock is probably our most important player because of his defensive...

What do you make of Benji Marshal to rugby?

No way? Ever? Not sure Dan. I could name 20 ABs off the top of my head that many a fan thought would never get close to an AB jersey. Even with those other three he's one injury away from an AB squad. Something in his favour is that I think he is a genuine 10/12 option which only Carter can...

What do you make of Benji Marshal to rugby?

I actually think Benji could play either 10 or 12. He's not exactly the smallest guy, bigger than Dan Carter. He could be a genuine 2nd 5/8 in the Tom Taylor, Tim Bateman, Aaron Mauger mould where his running/distribution game could be used to great effect.

    Brumbies vs Cheetahs Prelim 2

It's Canberra Ash, you'll have to wait for a committee to be formed, then a review, then a Senate enquiry and then wait for support of the Greens to get something like that off the ground (excuse the pun) :) The facilities aren't crash hot, more akin to a regional sports ground

What do you make of Benji Marshal to rugby?

Early in his career he wasn't actually too bad in D, relying on his speed. He's now got two fairly problematic shoulders that has forced him to alter his tackling - more grabbing than putting the shoulder in regularly. Benji's got a decent head on his shoulders and has good work ethic and has...

    Brumbies vs Cheetahs Prelim 2

The wind tunnel is horrific. Even in March on a cool night, if you're sitting in the wrong part of the stadium you need jacket, beanie, scarf etc. Other than the climate issues, its actually a good ground to watch rugby

    Waratahs V Reds July 13 2013

In a rugby league dominated State, it comes across just fine :) Not a fan of it myself and given it was the last game of the season also and didn't cost them a place in the finals was probably even more unnecessary.

    Crusaders v Reds Prelim 1

I think there is only a minimum requirement for newly recruited players. Just so teams don't go on mass recruitment drives just before the finals. As teach said, McCaw was named in the original squad. Not even in the wider training group. Saders have been pretty lucky that Todd and G...

    Crusaders v Reds Prelim 1

Didn't you hear McCaw was dropped after a very poor pre-season and has been unable to crack a match day 22 since. He was sent back to club rugby and and after showing a bit of form the last couple of weeks will get his chance to step up to see if he's up for it. Good luck to young Richie.

Wallabies Squad - the Link Era

Guys I'd like to see more of are Pat McCabe, Anthony Fainga'a, Richard Brown, McCalman, Dave Dennis, James O'Connor, Quade Cooper, Ben Alexander, Saia Fainga'a, Simmons. If not just to see the reaction from this place :)

    Force vs Brumbies, Round 20

Double movement? That's not part of the game they play in heaven.... Hodgsen is still allowed to move after he is tackled to place the ball, it just so happened that the placing of the ball was beyond the try line.

Decent play Alby. Force looked good in that last 5 minutes before HT.

Super Rugby 2013, the run home

The points diff won't really matter because Bulls are two wins ahead. It's points first and if tied then its number of wins. What slim says is all that's needed

That ending was tough to watch. Still scratching my head on how the Tahs lost that with all those opportunities at the end.

Ulugia should be made to run suicides for the whole offseason after that 5-6 minute effort.

    Waratahs V Reds July 13 2013

Because she has more sense than the lot of ya... :) Lots of whistle in this game. I predict it will come down to a last minute penalty the way the teams are playing and Walsh is reffing.

Competition - Link's top priority with the Wallabies

Mauger and Luke MacAllister had gone offshore so Nonu came in. Caused some ire amongst Some AB fans, but he was clearly the best performing 12 in Super rugby, had been in the AB environment prior - but only as a centre - but he demanded selection and his combo with Smith didn't hurt matters...
