    Exit from Super Rugby?

It's not just the A League. It is literally every single major sporting league in the world. There is no other example of a lengthy cross-continental league in world sport with a 10 hour time difference between locations. What evidence do you have that suggests more local content doesn't work...

    Exit from Super Rugby?

The same places it comes from for any sport. Where did it come from for the Brumbies or the Force or the Rebels? These are all established teams now with decent fan bases that compete in a tournament with a poor financial model. I am optimistic that a competition with a better model would be...

    Exit from Super Rugby?

As nice as it would be if he'd made it all up, Wayne Smith from the Australian wrote a similar story with direct quotes from Greg Harris a few weeks ago. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/rugby-union/players-want-a-super-10-and-south-africa-sidelined/story-e6frg7o6-1226873979713#

    Exit from Super Rugby?

I don't think it would be extremely detrimental to player development. There'd still likely be exposure to South African teams, just not in the regular season. It would be more special. And Australian rugby has already shown itself quite adept at recruiting South African players and...

    Exit from Super Rugby?

Bill Pulver in his Q&A at the Roar said their preferred option was a trans tasman conference linked with Asia that would not play South African teams until playoffs. NZ and SA were both against it. The article at the start of this thread, and others have referred to the Australian Super Rugby...

    Exit from Super Rugby?

Blue, impressive straw man rant there! Every single point is a misrepresentation or in some cases a complete fabrication of the views of myself and others that have a different opinion to you. The only point I'll respond to of yours is point 9. The evidence that an Australia/NZ competition...

    Exit from Super Rugby?

Well they're not really rep teams anymore. They're basically professional clubs or franchises that happen to be owned and run by state unions. And yeah no way would a 5 team comp work. You'd need at least 6 and ideally 8 or 10. Would be difficult to do but perhaps not impossible with just...

Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

Nah I wouldn't play 3 games at TG. The problem is it's not conveniently located unless you live locally - it's not that close to either Eastwood or Epping train stations and the parking situation is awful on a big game day. But the bigger problem is that I think people in the greater west...

Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

Pfitzy, I agree if you were to have 1 venue the best option would be around the Parramatta area. I believe it's the geographic centre of Sydney and it certainly works for the Wanderers. The only problem is Parramatta Stadium is probably a touch too big and I'm guessing expensive. If it's not...

Bodes well for the Rays team in the NRC.

    Exit from Super Rugby?

Why would they be voting themselves out of a job? They are the CEO's of the teams, and the teams would still be playing in any alternative competition. The games that rate best in Australia are the matches played in Australia between Australian teams. With matches between Australian and kiwi...

Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

Yeah the 4 games should be played in different venues - Greater Sydney is a massive area! But I think they should play each game in a ground that can hold at least 5k. Maybe budget for crowds of 2000, but the aim should be 5000+ in my opinion. There's no reason that can't be achieved.

    Waratahs 2014

Have a lottery at games. Everyone with a ticket in the draw. Winner gets like $100k. If it filled the stadium it'd be worth it. How many people buy lottery tickets every week? And the probability of winning $100k in Oz Lotto or Powerball would be much worse than 1/40,000!

    Blues v Tahs, round 11 2014

The number of handling errors is ridiculous.

    Exit from Super Rugby?

Exactly, we need to be able to say the proposed super 17/18 structure doesn't work for us and if it doesn't change to something that does we'll go off on our own. Without a plan B we have no bargaining power. We can't just be forced into accepting something that is going to lead us off a...

    Exit from Super Rugby?

To the first point, why do you think that? If the Western Force could attract 20k+ members and average crowds in its first few seasons then why would it be unrealistic for a team in a more populated area, with more rugby tradition, and likely more existing rugby fans to attract 15k to about 8...

    Exit from Super Rugby?

I don't want to create a huge quote pyramid Braveheart so just in response to a few key points. You mention the Rebels - that is the only time Australian rugby really sought out private investment. And they got it. There were at least a couple of different consortiums for that license as well...

    Exit from Super Rugby?

You obviously haven't read what I've said. I've never suggested replacing the current 5 teams. That would make zero sense. And you wouldn't be spreading the talent across 10 teams. Not too much anyway. As I've said, new teams would have to import a lot of new players - foreigners and aussies...

Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

Maybe it could be pushed up to M ... just nothing too overtly offensive I suppose. The key with say a PG rating is to be a bit cleverer/more subtle with any vulgarity!

    Exit from Super Rugby?

There is a BIG difference between a short 3rd tier NRC tournament that doesn't involve the most marketable players and a longer top domestic tier tournament that does. Something designated as '3rd tier' and as a 'player development pathway' has no chance of competing with even the A League...
