    Where to for Super Rugby?

We simply have to have a Trans-Tasman comp. We also need a National Club competition, my suggestion on the RA thread is for a knock-out Cup along the lines of the FA Cup. The Trans-Tasman Cup would give us a product for evening viewing, the Knock-out Cup would be played on Saturday arvos...

    Australian Rugby / RA

In the Weekend Oz McLennan is quoted as saying, inter alia, "the Australian Club championship would become a formal competition, not a hastily arranged match between the Sydney and Brisbane premiers. The trick will be to organise a structure that does not lead to haves and have-nots". Errr, yes...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I would bet good money on it. This is just brinksmanship.

Why the hatred towards rugby league

That is a sweeping generalisation. It might be your personal experience, but that does mean that "rugby union is solely concerned with throwing stones" - it means that this is what you have observed in your interactions. You would have to have a friendship or at least some kind of...

Why the hatred towards rugby league

Our principal strength as a code is our international dimension. At a time like this, an international dimension is actually a drawback. Any conceivable "national" rugby competition will get very little free publicity, and if a purely domestic competition manages to get some airing on FTA it...

    Australia domestic rugby 2020

The last I heard they were still looking. They have said that we will move towards the north west, because that is where our supporters live now. Yes, the plan is to own it, although there might be other options worth considering.

Why the hatred towards rugby league

Papabear, surely you are not suggesting that league does not overwhelm us on any measure when it comes to bad player behaviour? The papers are full of it. Incidentally, because we are a genuine international sport, and this is a time for domestic sports only, we are obviously easy to attack.

Why the hatred towards rugby league

It might also be worth pointing out that we are in the middle of a once in a lifetime catastrophe. In an alternative universe, where Covid-19 does not exist, we are coming towards the end of a really interesting Soup season, with a couple of the Australian franchises shining; we are also looking...

Why the hatred towards rugby league

Sorry, mate, that is just a load of bilge. Who is supposed to "take it on the chin and own up"? Me? You? All the many supporters of the game, those of us who played it and watch it and love it, warts and all? What should I own up to? Do you have anything to own up to? Who are you...

Why the hatred towards rugby league

The simple truth is that Australia is the only developed country where league is more popular than rugby. They know that, we know that, it rankles with them, and it rankles with us.

Why the hatred towards rugby league

Maybe a reaction to the Roy Masters articles in the SMH, he just bags our game up hill and down dale. We all know that our game is struggling, we do not need to have it shoved down our throats all the time.

What do you want in a RA Streaming Service

I'd pay lots provided it only showed games we win. Not sure if the technology is available yet.

    I agree even more.

    Australian Rugby / RA

The only way something like this would happen would be if a local billionaire engineered a hybrid game, and it would certainly not encompass most of the rugby world. It might attract the Pacific Islands. And us. So the "big white flag" would, in practical terms, have to be waved by rugby...

    Shute Shield 2020

Yes, I think we all know that. The simple fact is that SU not a club, it is an institution within which one sport offered is rugby. Some of the overheads that the other genuine District Clubs have to bear in their entirety are shared with other sports and (gasp) are subsidised by the public...

    Reds 2020

Which would probably also end up in court. Or be circumvented one way or another. At the end of the day, the best thing for the game is probably to retain the players who want to play their rugby here, and give them preference in selection for the national team. Not much point trying to...

    Refereeing decisions

I would like it better if the penalty was 10 minutes without the carded player (who cannot, of course, take any further part in the game).

    Reds 2020

We are in uncharted waters at the moment, nothing like Covid-19 has happened in peacetime since the Spanish Flu epidemic. It is not much of a surprise that young professional athletes are stumbling around a bit, trying to work out what the future holds. Nobody knows. Well very few.:)

    Reds 2020

I thought the Reds were super-impressive way back when. I suppose my view would be that the coach is always right. There are very few head coaches who have done what Thorn has done. I particularly liked the way that he put the hard yards in to become an AB, no short-cuts, no special deals...

    Wallabies 2020

Lots of interesting things happened when Quade was on the field. Some of them were pretty good.
