    Brumbies 2011

That's what I was hoping to draw out, TK. On this interpretation, "Burgess was never [good enough] in his time with the Brumbies [five seasons] to even make the bench..." Interesting that he played Australian Under 21s in 2004, and was named in the Wallabies train on squads in both 2006 and...

    Brumbies 2011

I have no idea what to make of your comment, Slim. He was with the Brumbies from 2003 to 2007, that is, five seasons. He made his first of only two appearances for them in 2005. By "never fit" do you mean that he was not sufficiently physically conditioned or that he was injured throughout...

    Brumbies 2011

Let me be the first to say how much I enjoy seeing LG arc up. So often the voice of calm self control and reason, it is good to see him cut loose. I don't have any particular opinion about Andy Friend but I have a great aversion to coaches who don't give kids time and opportunity to perfect...

    Reds 2011

It's a level lower than Super Rugby but I and a lot of other people thought he was in superb form in the finals series of the Shute Shield. I would expect him to have an outstanding season in 2011; so much so that he might even impress a few Queenslanders who tend to be an unforgiving bunch.

    Academy Trial Advice

Dobber, I'm not into bagging the other code but you don't seem to me to be the sort of bloke who belongs there. Congratulations on getting through the first cut but my advice would be to think carefully before you commit.

Crusaders to wear West Coast jersey for first home game of the season(vs NSW)

Fortunately for all concerned the West Coast jersey is the one on the left.

    Waratahs 2011

Call me an old cynic - most people do - but this story in the Terror has 'beat up' written all over it. The article is titled, "Waratahs have high hopes for new recruit Lopeti Timani to follow in Rocky Elsom's footsteps." A 15 word heading suggests that none of the sub-editors are in over the...

    Reds 2011

I think that you have the effort going in the wrong direction, TK. If you grap someone by the collar presumably you intend to pull them towards you. The bench pull would be the relevant exercise.

    Reds 2011

The bench pull has a fair degree of specifity for rugby; the bench press has almost none.

    Aussies abroad?

One name that hasn't been mentioned so far is Paul Dearlove, captain of Pau.

    Sydney Colts 2011

He's really committed, observer. Fantastic trainer, comes all the way in from Blacktown and never misses a session. Very keen on study.

    Sydney Colts 2011

Will Skelton played 2nd Colts with Uni this year and has just completed 6 weeks of intensive training in their EDS program.

    Australia Rugby Cup

With the cut back in the number of Tests next year, I think the ARU will be too busy conducting chook raffles and lamington drives to pay for their two million dollar men to consider sponsoring a new competition. Get ready for a huge operating loss and the elimination of any development...

The Postmodernisation of Rugby Union in Australia

I've spent a couple of decades apologising for being an economist. Now I don't feel so defensive. It seems that other disciplines are infested with even greater nonsense.

    Reds 2011

I assume that was meant to read "an anonymous", TOCC?
  16. Bruce Ross

    Waratahs 2011

You are right, TOCC, but I don't think it significantly affects the contrast between the two approaches. In 2009 the exercises were Bodyweight Bench Press, Overhead Log Press, Farmer's Walk, Two-minute Row, Chin Ups and Iron Cross.

    Waratahs 2011

"BLOCKBUSTING back-rower Cliffy Palu has sent out a powerful message he is ready to rock 'n' roll opposition players again next season by outmuscling his teammates to win the Waratahs' annual strongman competition. "The victory was a positive sign for both the Waratahs and Wallabies after...

    Great comeback, vidiot.

The Role of Private Schools in Australian Rugby

A typically astute point, LG. In any field of collective human endeavour, very little is achieved in the absence of leaders and drivers. I have gradually come to the conclusion that the latter are the more important. Great things can be achieved when you have leaders who are also drivers.

    Two Blues have rebranded

The first sentence might look good on my tombstone. RF, you are clearly a perfectionist. One of the interesting things about this forum is gradually learning how many members we have with very diverse talents.
