2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

The Baas had some good club players and some Waratahs but you could see that they had never played together before, and probably had their first training run before the game. The U20s were good in the first half but lost structure in the second, though they piled on a few points...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

I have that old list somewhere but it won't mean much. They''ll be hard-nosed Sydney senior club men with the odd ringer from out of state is my guess.

    CAS Rugby 2014

The reports about the fighting last year were low lights of 2013 schools rugby discussion and I had to put a stop to it. There were people claiming to be close by an incident who described what they saw, who had wildly different views, and had a go at each other in the forum. I don't care if...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Did anybody go to Waverley v Barker to provide a few sentences for the CAS blog (not counting fighting and bad behaviour)? We've got two nice reports from oldandslow and Elster and just need a few sentences for the third game to round it out and add in the photos I have. Could someone give...

    CAS Rugby 2014

There is a thread somewhere on the best XV from any school - based on how they played as senior players. .

    Shute Shield 2014

He played well didn't he? He looked handy to me on my first sighting of him: very nippy and quick off the mark. Comfortable on the ball too. He probably has all kinds of mistakes to make and learn from (like Harry Jones for the Rats) before we see the best of him but he looks like a good 'un. .

    Shute Shield 2014

What a cracking game at Chatswood Oval. Here's my take: The Warringah Rats continued their form of winning tight matches in a cracking game of rugby at Chatswood Oval, when they beat an impressive Gordon team 31-21. Ahead 15-14 at half time they lost the lead in the second half, came back...

The blog is here. http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/australian-under-20s-impress-in-warm-up/ If anybody wants to make a comment about it, please do so there, and not here. Thanks. .

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

There will be a blog up when you wake up. The score was distorted when the U20s scored three quick tries at the end when their superior fitness came through (21 points). But Country had some good moments. Incidentally Michael Gunn has been in camp and was on the reserves bench. No doubt he...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Oz U20s beat NSW Country 53-5 tonight at Chatswood Oval. It was a good hit out and they looked sharp and extremely fit. Foketi was injured and had to retire but didn't look too bad; however Placid limped off with some ailment which looked more serious. .

    Rebel v Tahs, round 15 2014

That was a good win from the Tahs. Did anybody get the name of that chap who was throwing the ball in into the lineouts for the Tahs? Whoever he is Cheika should give him a run in the next game because he was a lot better than TPN. And have him kick the goals too Cheik. .

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

I've never seen him play but I saw him at training yesterday. He's a big unit and looks ugly enough. The same for Jack Payne, who is not listed as a lock. Staniforth won't be playing in the two warm-up games, most likely, so it will be interesting to see a contest for his eventual partner...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Don't know because I have seen only the NSW players this year, and them only in selection trials. But I'll have a better idea after the two games at Chatswood Oval.

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

I saw the U20s train this afternoon and there is still a lot of work to be done. Coach Adrian Thompson said today that all Super Rugby players will be available for NZ, including Luke Burton. He told me yesterday that everybody is fit but I note that Jack Dempsey and Andrew Robinson were on...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Tom will be the tight head lock. Matt Philip, who was chosen in 2013 (but was injured and couldn't tour) and was the NSW U20 captain recently, is an athletic-type second rower for the loose head side, and like Tom is a fine lineout jumper. I don't know Payne and Haylett-Petty, who can both...

Which Clubs are the Class of 2013 going to?

He was called in when all the Tahs wingers were going down. He was certainly the best Oz Schools player last year that I saw, and he plays "old". He has a lot to learn as anybody would at his age but he has the rugby smarts of a mature player and will get to be a pro player before most of...

    QLD Premier Rugby 2014

Taller than at Concord Oval the home ground of West Harbour in Sydney? I don't think so. .

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

I expected something like that when Godwin got crocked. The Reds withheld the services of CFS last year but added a proviso that he could be used in a certain window of time as a replacement player if somebody was injured, and he wasn't needed for Super Rugby. Turns out that he got injured...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Supply and demand I suppose Dan. If this wasn't a third world rugby country (in TV product consumption terms - not IRB rankings) they would probably have purchased a package that included more games. The option they purchased would have cost less. That's part of the price you paid for...
