    Waratahs 2014

Agree qwerty: I wouldn't let him anywhere near the piggies despite his size. I hope he doesn't frustrate us as much as Nadolo did when he was so good in Sydney club rugby but couldn't nail down a Super spot because of his poor handling and a seeming lack of diligence off the ball. Nadolo is...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Jack Johnson and Fabian Natoli made the "NSW Colts" Under 20 team and competed in the nationals. They didn't make it into the Aussie team, others did. It doesn't mean that the selectors thought they were bad players. All those of us who have been selectors at humble levels would know the...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Exactly - in fact Cameron Skelton is probably playing for Samoa now, and not Australia, partly for that reason. He is a tighthead lock and nothing else. He may have missed out anyway but it would not have helped his cause. I've seen L. Jones play 6, 8 and lock and he's the type of players...

Wallabies v France - June 14 Etihad Stadium

They have a point: one reason why the results of France are so unaccountable on tour is that the players relax from their weekly grind. And the point of the foreigners is valid also, especially regarding the flyhalf position. Nice opinion will have it that the French rugby union should step in...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Expect to see the team to play against Italy to be dramatically different. The way the schedule was struck the strategy was to play the best team against Argentina and England and win both games then give everybody a run against Italy. It didn't work, but it was the only practicable strategy...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

That is right Iluv and, talking about England, they can afford to do it. Their lads would attend at the academies of their local pro club as full-timers and undergo many of the same processes as their senior club colleagues—and be involved in some opposed training with the older guys. The best...

    Wallabies v France 1st test - Suncorp 7 June

Usually these days the 4 jumper is given to the tighthead lock though it is a recent thing on my scale of recent, and it is immaterial. The lock chosen for the tighthead side is considered to be the stronger scrummager because the THP needs all the help he can get with weight on both...

    Wallabies v France 1st test - Suncorp 7 June

This is a storm in a teacup. Hooper will be the captain. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) would probably say that he doesn't compare with Hooper in the attributes required. Hooper is young but he is an old young. .

    Wallabies v France 1st test - Suncorp 7 June

Not so. Only one player was left behind to rest: Pascal Pape, the warhorse seconder-rower. Their best two hookers couldn't come though because they were injured. Two flankers were injured too but PSA brought them on tour hoping they would get fit here: Dusautor (bicep tear) and Nyanga (groin...

    Waratahs 2014

I'm not sure about the terminology but the Tahs had a heap of youngsters with them from about October - all candidates for the NSW Under 20 squad that competed in the National Under 20 Championships before the national side was picked for the IRB JWC which is currently underway. They had...

Harry is doing OK: I've seen a bit of him in first grade this year. I've said of Andrew Kellaway in other posts that he plays "old" - as though he has the experience of an older player. Harry is not at that stage yet but I'll back him to get there. .

    Waratahs 2014

Exactly right. That's the sad thing about Oz footie. Because we don't have the depth of senior players outside of existing Super Rugby stables as the SAffers have on display in the Currie Cup and the Kiwis in the ITMC, our pro teams target the youngsters, sometimes right out of school, and...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

I wrote about the game here: http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/england-under-20s-too-good-for-aussies/ … and have a little rant in Discussion at the bottom, which bears on the subject. .

I think Cheika has an armed guard around his home and tanks are down the street. He's been identified by the Tahs for a long time and so has another lad, still at school (whose name we won't mention in this thread.) .

    CAS Rugby 2014

It was exciting at the end of the Twos match. CAS had a relatively easy penalty kick at goal to win the game but unfortunately for them the lad who took the shot (no need to mention names) missed it comfortably and the ref blew the full-time whistle straight afterwards. But credit CHS for...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Orr? I should have known he was Under 19 but didn't. Yeah Sio's exclusion was a mystery except that, as I have mentioned, he seemed to struggle for fitness in the trial games for NSW Colts. He got in the extended squad but got cut. Whatever, I'd back the selectors to have a good reason...

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

Whatever, Fereti's exclusion certainly gives a tick to the LHPs who were included: the NSW U20s players Rory O'Connor and Cameron Orr, though they are older. He's got the bloodlines though: his dad and uncle played for Samoa, and he's the cousin of Scott Sio. He'll get the 1. jersey next year. .

2014 IRB Junior World Championship – New Zealand

That's great that Sa'aga is in the JWC also (I didn't know that). Adrian Thompson said he was the best player of the Combined States tournament in Adelaide, and pipped opensider Rowan Perry, who was so good yesterday. I don't know why they picked Rory O'Connor and Cameron Orr in front of...
