    Brumbies 2011

Good to see Jerry on the bench. He's been out for quite a while.

    Shute Shield 2011

Three that I can mention because they have already turned out for Uni in the game against the Victorian State side on Friday night are Kirwan Sanday, Elih Baillie and James Willan. Elih and James have come to Uni from the Cronulla Sharks NYC program. I was not aware that "McKenzie has...

    Sydney Colts 2011

Sam is training extremely well and will make an impact this year. Tom Lamont is still with Uni but he is a loosehead whereas Sam plays on the grunt side. The player who was preferred to Sam for most of last season was Clay Brodie who has switched to Easts to play grade. His brother Rhys who...

Brumbies vs Reds, week 3 2011

It will be interesting to see whether Dave McDuling can work his way into getting a start this season. Aggression at the breakdown and around the park is his go.

    Waratahs 2011

You are right about the number of times he was captain. Rugby News has him as captain against Manly, Easts, Penrith and Randwick. It is the Randwick game that sticks in my memory. Not one of Uni's best days. We tried two Wallabies at 10 - Barnes and Huxley - neither of whom distinguished...

    Classic Bledisloe Match for Charity

An obvious 4 for Australia would be John Langford. Langers is still playing good club rugby on a regular basis.

    Waratahs 2011

I'm not sure whether that was a tongue in cheek comment, fp, but from my recollection of Tom's one (?) game as captain, I think he'd be better left organising the backline defence which he does better than anyone in Australia.

    Great line.

    The Hickey Must go thread

So unless Palota-Nau was feigning injury as someone absurdly suggested above,"going down at nearly every stoppage, giving his team a rest from all that brutal defensive work," he was injured; and neither the "longest serving ... treasure" nor the referee, "he has to go off", could persuade him...

    Rob Horne

I think it's been tried, last year against the Blues, Cheetahs and Crusaders.

    Try Hans Christian Anderson

I agree with you, Charger, but that sort of criticism is subsumed into the patent absurdity that he is a hopeless footballer. And that's been the theme of the ridicule, not "his love of hand bagging it up each week".

Ah yes, the butt of everyone's ridicule. The Aunt Sally of Australian rugby. Chariots of Carter - how we all laughed at what a goose he was. Everyone else thinks he's a buffoon, so they must be right. The power of group think: All the people had gathered in the main square, pushing and...

Just to give the ants' nest a prod with a stick, on what basis was Anthony Fainga'a ever considered a better 12 than Tom Carter?

    Kiama Sevens 2011

I have been told that Sydney Uni Women went through their section undefeated.

    Shute Shield 2011

A very small number and no established grade players. Basically young blokes a year or so out of school who don't seem to have really been on anyone's radar in Brisbane. They look the goods but they won't necessarily be playing grade.

Kaplan - Can we petition to ensure he never referees an Australian side again?

And there is far more to rugby than a knowledge of the Laws. I suspect that none of us who have held a driving licence for decades could pass the theory section of the licence test but that doesn't mean we can't drive. Not necessarily drive well but we usually manage to get from Point A to Point...

    OK, who's injured?

Surely the old war horse can soldier on with one arm. After all didn't he play most of a Super season with a broken foot?

A beautifully crafted if succinct summation of the game, Numero Uno, with which most members would find no reason to disagree.

    Week 2 - Wallabies 22

Hux would have to have attempted a shit load of tackles to make 8 misses look respectable.
