Hurricanes v Reds Sat 23rd April

I know stats aren’t everything - but according to ESPN Stats Harry Wilson topped the runs for Qld with 17 runs and 68 meters (plus 4 offloads) and topped the tackle count with 15 and no misses. Other notables were Tupou with 9 runs for 20, and 5 tackles with none missed; McReight (9 runs, 61...

    Wallabies 2023

He also grew up playing league and was always on the path to league. Like so many league kids, his pathway included a scholarship to a Brisbane GPS school.

Isn’t there something like a dozen Victoria raised players now playing super rugby, plus a group more in their squad. 10 years ago what was that number. 3 or 4? Look - I know you think we should just go open slather. Personally I think that is the worst possible option - so I think we just...

Hurricanes v Reds Sat 23rd April

Well - we know NZRU wanted less teams. And I completely understand their position, even if I don’t like some of their actions. I also completely understand RAs position of digging in. Maybe they both also reached the conclusion this was the best option available. I do think that the Force...

I disagree. I do think we are getting better At the very minimum I think it is premature to put a line through things 1 week in. Anyway - I’ll wait and see how things play out over the next few weeks.

I do completely get the dissatisfaction with the current set up. What I don’t get is what the obvious better option is. If we want the Aussie teams then fine, ditch two teams and only have 3 in Super rugby. We’ll be more competitive and have more money to retain key players, and at the same...

Haha - fair enough. I’m one person who will admit I was wrong on that count, and you were right.

Rebels vs Cantabs. Sun, Apr 24 2022

Tackles a lot better though (and not quite as entertaining to watch in attack to be fair to Knox)

As mentioned above, I’m assuming the Vic govt paid well to host it

Australian Super Rugby Team of the Week 2022

Round 10 1. Scott Sio (welcome back Scott - would love to see you back playing like that every week) 2. Lonergan 3. Tupou 4. Holloway 5. Swain 6. Gamble (Valetini very good too - but Gamble gets the nod) 7. McReight 8. Wilson 9. White (McDermott & Gordon both very good too, but White superb in...

Highlanders v Brumbies Sun 24 April

Well done Brumbies. Good to see them hang in there.

Hurricanes v Reds Sat 23rd April

I agree that is the problem - but I can’t see in any possible way how that is a good solution. We need to get better, no doubt, but what your proposing would kill professional rugby in Australia. Edit: not to mention dismantle all our current pathways. We may all have different thoughts on how...

Hurricanes v Reds Sat 23rd April

Funny - I thought Tupou had some good carries and put himself in the position to run a few times in mid field when we needed a lift. He had 9 runs for 20 metres and a couple of them were close to the line so not a terrible output. I do think the Canes defenders did a very good job on him though...

Hurricanes v Reds Sat 23rd April

I think the thing that disappoints me was that the things that let us down are things that have been an issue for 3-4 years - our lineout and discipline. Yes, skill execution deteriorated too - poor Daugunu had a shocker in the second half and some of the catch pass execution & decision making...

Waratahs vs Chiefs. Fri April 22, 2022

Not to mention both your hookers (losing lineouts were a big factor in the last 20 minutes), your starting fullback & getting two guys sent/binned. A couple of key players didn’t step up - Roberts the main one but I thought Perese was poor in defence too. Gordon, Gamble & Holloway were great...

    Brumbies 2023

Pretty unique set of circumstances that led up to that though. He was in Qld on his off season and joined the squad to run opposition based on his style being closer to the Kiwi 10s. From there he trained so well he convinced Rennie to give him a shot. It also helped he’d had about 6-7 weeks...

    Reds 2022

Is it that easy though? And do you mean now or in the future? I really rate Campbell and partly that’s because of his ball playing and ability to read play, but I don’t think there’s a guarantee he’ll succeed at 10. If we were looking specifically at tomorrow it would actually mean more...

    Reds 2022

Plenty of players will move between now and then. We’ll have a much better idea on guys like Creighton, Annan & Lynagh. Also if Campbell has a future in 10. If O’Connor does move on we can start shopping next year.

    Reds 2022

That’s my understanding. And also that Lucas and Gordon signed their contracts with an expectation there was an opportunity at 10. My understanding is his conversion had a big influence on the decision of the other two.

One thing - I’m far more worried about how Asiata is going to go then Creighton. And that’s not a crack at Asiata. I just think his performance will be more influential.
