Waratahs vs Cantabs. Saturday, April 30, 2022

I think the bigger issue Drew is that attackers already drop their head and we are already seeing players take dives and draw attention to the contact. The problem at the moment is that all of the responsibility is put on one side of the equation. In my experience that never works well.

Well then we need to start penalising attacked where theirnactions result in the head contact, IMO. And I think that would end up even worse than what we have now.

No - that’s not how it works (to my understanding). If it is foul play than the entry point is a Red card and it can be downgraded one level to yellow with mitigation. If it’s not foul play then it’s not foul play (whether reckless or careless) and there is no sanction. I agree it’s...

I largely agree - but it not completely inconsistent. From memory one of the Reds players got the exact same leniency Friday night. In any case that is how I believe it should be reffed and that is the standard I would like to see applied. I am all for punishing poor technique or lack of effort...

    Brumbies v Hurricanes, 2pm, 01/05

Big opportunity for the Brumbies today. It was good to see them get the win last week but I feel they still have another gear. Or at least they’ll be aiming to play in a higher gear for longer. Their first 20 minutes was sublime but they took the foot off the throat. Really looking forward to...

    Reds 2023

I dunno - I don’t get to many Reds games, but the games I’ve been to, even when crowd numbers have been in the 15-20k numbers I’ve thought the atmosphere was pretty good. When the numbers get above 20k I think it seems really good. One those sort of numbers they don’t open the top tiers so you...

One of the really pleasing things last night was how strong the crowd was. Obviously winning games and playing better rugby are going to be the two big things there. But those little things like Coleman’s connections with Shute Shield and Ed Craig’s connection with the next gen can’t be...

I feel a bit like the Tahs just got praised from their grumpy old dad whose normal feedback is something along the lines of a mumbled ‘God gave you shoulders for a reason son’

One extra observation - I thought O’Keefe got the ruling on the high tackles by Dalzell exactly right and I think that is a good thing for all us if they continue to rule no penalty on those ones where the defender dips but has insufficient time to adjust.

Yeah - I saw it. Wonderful to see. im obviously being tongue in cheek with my earlier posts, but I don’t mean to be disrespectful to Ed. Glad to see him get another crack and seeing him with all the kids who clearly loved it was great.

Wait… what? You expected the Tahs to win? Yeah, I’m calling bullshit on that.

Ed Craig back in Super Rugby. Tahs roll the Crusaders. Coincidence….. I think not.

Yeah - I agree with that. But also he does deserve credit for picking something not many others did.

That’s not actually true. BR did pick the Tahs to win at least one game against the Kiwi opposition and has praised the Tahs a fair bit this season.

I’m a bit philosophical. Scrummaging is always about what you can get away with. But it did seem that scrum was particularly easy to see they were walking around the corner. And it obviously made the try something of a lay down misere. It is interesting that the Refs apparently talked to the...

Yeah - I think it was forward, but I’ve seen worse let go. Unfortunately the others let go haven’t always had the bad level of carry on damage to my team that this one did.

I assume he asked the AR why he let the opposition half man handle him like that. And I assume the AR said something along the lines of ‘well, don’t get offside and he won’t have to’. Not sure what the ARs response would have been though to Fotuaika if he asked him ‘hey - why did you just let...

On the positive, I think we’ve seen Blyth & Smith really come along as a locking pair. They are very old school in that their job relies almost entirely on doing the dirt work, but they are doing it well. 19 tackles, 1 miss & 2 runs for Blyth + 18 tackles, 1 miss, 8 runs for Smith. Hoopert &...

I get that the game plan was frustrating, but I don’t really think that m’s why they lost. I actually thought it created more than enough chances to win. The Reds turned over a lot of ball at key times and gave too many penalties under pressure.

No difference between that and Ross angling massively to open up the blind. Both know what they are doing is only wrong if they get caught.
