    The Rugby Championship 2014

Agree re Poite. he appears to go into games with the preconception that the Wallabies are aiming to collapse every scrum.

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

It would be nice to think we could have 2 of the world's best 7s at the WC, with no chance of reliving the debacle of the 2011 WC where we had no backup for pocock

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

He was just about the world's best player in 2010-2011. The idea that he's too one dimensional is as ridiculous as people saying he is going to walk straight back into the starting 7 jersey next year. I agree that Hooper fits our game plan well but Poey (in form) is world class.

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

haha I would think if you were going to play two 7s at once, you wouldn't be stupid enough to play Palu and Skelton at the same time.

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

3 years?! didn't poey get MOTM against Wales on the 2012 EOYT. That was less than 2 years ago. He also put in a few high quality performances for the Brumbies at the start of 2013 and 2014

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

Yeh I'm still not 100% certain that you couldnt play an extra 7 and play a 6/2 bench. It would certainly be handy to have a guy like pocock on the bench (particularly if you got a bit of a lead in the game and wanted to amp up defense). It would probably come down to whether you had the right...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I'm not disagreeing with you but I remember we played Pocock/Smith in tandem to pretty good effect in the northern hemisphere. there might be certain circumstances when you would carry an extra 7, maybe with a 6/2 split,. unlikely tho

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

did you read the name of the thread dave? "Optimum 23 players". Pocock is contracted with Brumbies next season (i.e. he's eligible), he'll have recovered from his current injury and will have had a good 6 months of rugby under his belt by the time the world cup starts. Whether he can reach to...

    Wallabies v France 3rd Test - 21 June Sydney

That is a fair point. To'omua is actually already slotting into first receiver every now and then. He did it a lot in the second game, but only because they wanted to play a territorial battle. So it appears that Link does intend to use To'omua at 10 in attack from time to time but predominantly...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I'm wondering whether the world cup squad will increase to 33 next year, having regard to the fact that teams are required to play an extra prop on the bench. anyone know what the deal is? My 32 man squad at present would look like this:- Props - Slipper (LH/TH), Sio (LH), Robinson (LH)...

    Wallabies v France 3rd Test - 21 June Sydney

@ Pfitzy - I agree with you comments re why there are perhaps less 'traditional' style 7s in the game ATM. I think its worth noting that these days the whole team is trained to take part in trying to pilfer the ball at the breakdown. Players in other positions have become quite effective at...

    Wallabies v France 3rd Test - 21 June Sydney

Re Fardy, I'm not too sure about his longevity as our starting 6 but he has the spot locked down at least for the immediate future. He does seem to balance our backrow quite well. But there is a pair of good backrows (McCalman/Higgers) breathing down his neck. Obviously your not going to get...

Richo is right, and from memory McCaw did fall off a tackle either the first or second game which lead to a try.

    Wallabies v France 3rd Test - 21 June Sydney

Yeh no I realise no one called from To'omua to play 10, I just dont see why people are still writing about whether he should or shouldn't be a 10 for the wallabies. i read Hawko's post and I partly agree with the point he was trying to make about To'omua not being the right fit for the wallabies...

    Wallabies v France 3rd Test - 21 June Sydney

Cant believe people are still talking about To'omua as a 10 for the wobs. To'omua is our 12, and he's the only player we have with the skill set we require in that position. We need a 12 that not only acts as a 2nd play maker but is defensively strong. If you look at the teams we will be playing...

    Wallabies v France 3rd Test - 21 June Sydney

Thoughts on the game. -Nice dominant win for the Wallabies! 7 wins in a row is fantastic, exactly what we want heading into the Bledisloe. - There was a lot of errors in our play, but we also some good continuity at times. - I thought White was pretty good this week. Service was nice and quick...

Wallabies v France - June 14 Etihad Stadium

perhaps. I have always said this year that Kepu distinguished himself last year as our best THP. I agree Alexander is important to our chances to win back the bledisloe. right now we are pretty much relying on Kepu 100%. we need at least 2 decent THPs

All Blacks vs Poms - 3rd test

@Franklind - England have a very good team at the moment. NZ are still clearly better than England,. the question really is how much better are they. IMO this England team seems to have closed the gap over the last few years, but so have the boks (who to be fair seemed to bother NZ more than any...

Wilko to play in the NRC?

I think it's a great idea provided it is a private investor that is footing the bill, and not the ARU. One problem with the NRC will be promoting the fact that it exists. If Wilkinson was brought over for the comp, it would get plenty of free publicity. Wilkinson is one of the few...
