The IRB is getting too big for its boots

Just out of interest, what do you mean by this? I don't doubt the truth of it, but surely favouring QCs was due to their expertise rather than any allegiance to the mother land. Or have I misunderstood?

I'll cop that. These guys might the exception to the tradition...

I specifically said that's not what I meant. Private schools have more co-curricular activities, so on average the students produced have a more rounded education, and probably are more inclined to go on and pursue tertiary studies (simply because most of their mates are) - which I think makes...

Really? Perhaps I'm an outsider to the issue (although I do live in Sydney) but I think the greatest traditional quality of Australian rugby is the premium that it places on intelligence. I'm not saying that private school students are any more intelligent than their public school...

    RWC 2011 - Quarter final 3 : Springbokke v. Wallabies CLOSED

This the South Africa v Samoa violence, on youtube - clearly there was some stuff going on, but it doesn't look too awful (except the knob-grabbing by paul williams) http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FqOyLsWt5Qo

Well, I clearly put the mockers on Guildford: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/5737670/Guildford-hamstrung-at-All-Blacks-training

    RWC 2011 - Quarter final 3 : Springbokke v. Wallabies CLOSED

On a completely - not at all - different subject: who would win in a fight between Barnes and McCabe?

    RWC 2011 - Quarter final 3 : Springbokke v. Wallabies CLOSED

Absolutely. Quade plays really well as a league-style five-eighth, running second-man plays from depth. His lateral movement is ridiculous, so if he gets the space the opposition can't actually rush up. It's a tactic pretty much negated by rain though. Edit: I failed at quoting then, so...

    RWC 2011 QF4: NZ v Argentina (W Pool A v RU Pool B)

Yeah I agree. He's solid like a fullback. He makes his tackles, he's good under the highball, he goes to ground when he needs to and offloads/kicks when he needs to, his fend means he can survive in contact until support arrives. I actually think he's the most solid winger we've had since...

I wish. He'd look good in a black jersey.

    RWC 2011 - Quarter final 3 : Springbokke v. Wallabies CLOSED

I think that under-rates mccabe as a runner. He's got no passing game, sure, but the super 15 showed he can actually beat guys on the outside. I just don't think it's his role in a Wallabies team filled with Coops, Beale etc.

    RWC 2011 QF4: NZ v Argentina (W Pool A v RU Pool B)

The first period against France was pretty brutal, but other than that I absolutely agree. This is like 07 all over again - but with the added distraction of Carter. I just think the Argies might just fall short in the backs.

    RWC 2011 QF1: Ireland v Wales (W Pool C v RU Pool D)

Yeah, who do the nicknames refer to? I looked up 'Gwlad' and found this, which I imagine is what you're talking about. What a phenomenal site, that front page is hilarious. http://gwladrugby.com/

    Quade Cooper interview Channel 9

I can't find it online, but basically it was about his family background. He spent the first couple of years in a women's shelter after his mum left his dad, then headed to australia after his step-dad (who seems like a nice guy) was laid off. They were shit-poor, then Quade gets picked up on a...

    Quade Cooper interview Channel 9

I'll be checking that out, thanks for the heads up. After reading that piece in Good Weekend I actually turned a corner on him a bit (I originally thought he was a dick). Sounds like a pretty rough childhood, no wonder he gets a bit scrappy.

Yeah, but now you have to stick to kicking them from the right half - welcome back to humanity.

Not another "Four More Years Boys"

I don't think anyone is suggesting they play in the super 15; rather that they play against franchise sides in the super off-season (like immediately afterwards). Gives them more games, potentially more revenue, and won't result in the kind of towellings that we see when they play Aust/NZ/SA...

    RWC 2011 - Quarter final 3 : Springbokke v. Wallabies CLOSED

Ahhh I'd forgotten it's in the cake-tin. This game is turning into a massive crap-shoot: either the wind will help the Wallabies (by messing with Steyn's goal-kicking) or the Boks (by making bombs impossible to deal with); the Ref is a nutter; the selections (particularly from PdV) are...

    Dan Carter out of cup

I think the AB backline will pretty much operate the same (I even rate Slade as slightly more dangerous with ball in hand; great acceleration, great draw and pass), but they'll lose a lot from their kicking game, and potentially a lot from their composure under the pump. There's a little bit of...
