Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I meant to make this post in this thread and somehow [maybe the Hunter Reds] had me post it in another thread. So sorry for the repeat for those that read it elsewhere I just feel its more apt in this thread. The old saying monkey see monkey do is very apt to our current position. Tip...

    How to fix the wallabies

The old saying monkey see monkey do is very apt to our current position. Tip [poster on gngr] posted on page 33 in this thread maybe a week ago that rugby was becoming invisible. IMO it was in one sentence a statement of where we are. SANDDZAR has delivered very few local games for either...

    How to fix the wallabies

Just on the school debate we have been having. The issue are essentially twofold, first the public schools in and of theselves are to small to be able to carry rugby into the future. Second as discussed over this forum in different threads is the increasing competition of other sports and a...

    How to fix the wallabies

There is no cost or little cost if its done right. Its leadership to get people into the streets and leadership to do simple little things that cost little i.e. have match open days at Eastwood for local school kids, just come accompanied by a parent. Thats my big issue with Pap. I actually...

    How to fix the wallabies

^^^^^^^^^^^ Aussie D, great story and you have a nail head post. Its not about the money its more about a collective understanding by all involved about the importance of getting people to play. Just on the 1996, nay it was well before that. Infighting and lack of direction for years has...

    How to fix the wallabies

Cough cough cough. Sorry its not the system we have had for 100 years. In the 50's and well into the 60's Rugby was the main winter code in NSW state schools. Further in Sydney they rugby had equal if not more SS teams than league had ARL teams, further we had a large local park competition...

    How to fix the wallabies

WRC Not wanting to be provocative or try and be sensualist however to compare or even consider what we do at school level to other codes is foolish we are pathetic at it. What gets my goat is I have been bagging on about how league simply takes many of our reps and more recently so does the...

    How to fix the wallabies

Could not agree more and even through we all understand this to be true, because its been seen as not effecting the top of the pole for a while its been largely ignored or more put off for another day. The park teams, provide the following for all codes, Fields to play on and people just...

    Rugby TV Ratings 2016

I went on the News & SMH sites and found no mention of the NCR.

    How to fix the wallabies

WCR & QH WCR, the article did not suggest the dismantling of the GPS structure. It simply pointed out the obvious most of the talent comes from state schools an if we are honest the kids at the state schools get coached by there local club and they take that training to the state school...

^^^^^ Barbarian Seriously is that you response, that A-League rating fell slightly last year. Then an SBS analysis. Mate, Netball, AFL Womens league, Football they are all pushing into FTA spaces. The difference running Football on a commercial network and SBS will large IMO. The...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Tip Very preservative post. The AFL broadcast just over 200 Australian based games, the NRL roughly the same, the A-League 140 plus another 18 club Asian cup matches plus Socceroos which will lift to 200 A-League games when they go to 12 teams, plus their W-League. The AFL is also bringing...

Just on the media thing we were discussing over the last few days. We were in part looking at how hard ball Fox can be and what could maybe happen. Social media was ablaze today that Fox stopped because they could FTA coverage of the Socceroo match tonight. I understand its nothing to do...

The SA part said My concern as I said before we live off the SA and more recently international ratings. Attendances are down to their lowest level. If they fall further and if the quota system results in many players leaving SA for Europe and a fall in standard of SA "broadcast rugby"...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Its very possible there is no right answer and both sides on the BP debate have degrees of being right. My concern as most would be aware is the structural quality of our systems. At State schools we are near non existence At GPS schools still number one but with both soccer and AFL catching...

The worrying figures are the SA ones. As the quota systems kicks in can the SA figures pick up. Also we are unaware of the international ratings which from media reports at the time indicated was the main source in the ARU increase. Whether we like to admit it or not we live off the coat tails...

Very interesting post and raises some issues. My very limited understanding of how these things work, is there is an assumed minimum TV rating and when ratings fall below a line in the sand they can be re negotiated. The SA fall may be the trigger, and it could be overseas ratings are well...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I agree and why I reacted to the Pap posts being made by some. Everyone needs to do their bit. Rugby has many people telling or expecting others to do the heavy lifting. I see it as kinda the local committee to help grow the game not only organise the training kits.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

My understanding four proven methods of developing or say increasing participation rates are: 1.Having a National Domestic Competition 2.Having pathways, from grass roots well organised and run local district competitions, via senior sides 3. Rep sides to the National Domestic Competition. 4...
