    Folau re-signing

Well the Top 14 has 26 rounds, the European Cup and Challenge Cup teams play 6-9 matches and there's 10-14 test matches a year for tier 1 nations. Guys that play in the Top 14 and represent a top tier nation have the potential to play around as many, if not more matches than Folau will this...

    Folau re-signing

They'll just have to manage his workload carefully. A rest here and there - both from training and the odd game, benching him early in some matches that are already won or lost after 60 minutes etc. He won't be playing any more games each year than a lot of players do in Europe.

    Folau re-signing

Folau is worth every cent. His signing benefits every level of Australian rugby. From inspiring kids to play to attracting sponsorship and publicity. I think he'll be missing the EOYT when playing in Japan. And it'll only be one time as the first season there will be after the world cup...

World Rugby Sevens Caravan coming to Sydney

Maybe the theme could be something like ocean creatures. Then you'd get people dressing up as giant squid, jellyfish, mermaids etc. I think it should be something that inspires some pretty funny stuff.

    RWC Squads

So Uruguay's biggest name, and I think only professional player Rodrigo Capo Ortega has apparently 'retired' from test rugby before the world cup. What a disgrace. While the world cup is on there should be no top level club competitions allowed to be played. It happens every time. Guys from...

    Rio Olympics

Well I hope at least a couple of top Australian players (or at least established super rugby players) will give the sevens a crack. Can't put a price tag on going to the Olympics. Most Olympians could be earning more money doing something else.

    Rio Olympics

Depends on what motivates him! The Olympics is a dream for a lot of people and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity for him. Experiences like that are worth more than money. He's already done very well and has plenty of years left to earn big bucks. And it's not like he'd be poor for a year...

    The Official Shield Thread.

You could have an image like this on the centre of a shield too.

    The Official Shield Thread.

Okay, I'm convinced by Kiap's argument. What do the engravings say on the Ranfurly Shield? I can't see a good close up of it. Whatever they say they're all on the outside of it and the engravings are pretty small. I think the central part of any shield should have some visual design. I don't...

    The Official Shield Thread.

Think that's fair enough. The shield should only be contested in the regular season. Finals are separate and have enough on the line as it is. It's the same for the Ranfurly Shield.

    The Official Shield Thread.

Instead of a "Winners" or "Holders" section it could be written "Defenders of the Shield" - under which those teams that have done so would have their name and the year engraved.

    The Official Shield Thread.

I think teams should only be able to engrave it after a home defence. Or even say 3 consecutive defences. Don't like the end of season idea because that team may hold it for only 1 round, while another may have made 3 successful defences before that. Rugby Community Shield is a decent...

    Rio Olympics

Nah not DTH. But they've brought in Tyler Ardron (Ospreys), Jeff Hassler (Ospreys), Taylor Paris (Agen) and Connor Braid (Glasgow)

    Rio Olympics

US favourites for sure but wouldn't surprise me if they lost in a one off game. Canada have called in a handful of their European based pros for this event. All guys with plenty of 7's experience. Plus they have Captain John Moonlight. What a name. Doubt anyone will get within 30 points of...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

Well I don't agree that it's a worse product. There's plenty of great matches in Super Rugby every week. Maybe a problem is that Australian derby's are often so dire and full of conservative and cynical play. But that's been the case the entire time. I just can't see a national comp being...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

I'm a big supporter of the NRC but I don't think a national competition should ever take over Super Rugby. Rugby just isn't popular enough and the Australian sporting market is over-saturated. Super Rugby falling over would lead to every single one of our top 30 or 40 players leaving Australia...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

I don't think they're more interested in 7's than 15's, they just emphasise it more than most tier 1 countries. 7's has actually been a big driver for the total sport (including 15's) because of the Olympics inclusion. That's a really big deal in a lot of countries. Tier 1 nations using it...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

You should do some reading on the growth of rugby in the US over the past 5-10 years or so. Here's a couple of relatively recent articles that may be of interest: http://www.thespectrum.com/story/sports/2014/11/10/rugby-continues-americas-fastest-growing-sport/18830397/...

At the same time, that doesn't mean it wouldn't grow quicker in other countries, particularly at the elite (commercial) level if the game was more consistently entertaining. I think that the response to the final week of the 6 nations this year is evidence that it may also be the case in Europe.

    Rio Olympics

So the European series will double as the olympic qualifier? If that's the case I think it's kind of unfair that England and Wales are involved. They can skew the results. Teams that get them in their pool are disadvantaged.
