Wallabies v England in Melbourne, 18 June

Cruden does not always defend at 10; but then I guess the Kiwis have a license to break the "rules".

Wallabies v England in Melbourne, 18 June

Those stats are deafening. With those numbers its almost impossible to lose, but we managed it!

To'omua would be fixing a non-existent problem. Saturday our problems at 12 started when Lilo came on.

    Refereeing decisions

There is no ruck formed, he is just a tackler in general play. Why can't he do as he did? Clear release and then just picks up the ball.

2016 Under-20 Rugby World Championships - Manchester UK

I think we can still make it in 4th place if we beat England, but only if other results in the other two pools go our way.

    Springbokke vs Ierland Series

Three big issues from this series for mine: The impact of quotas What happens to the SA gameplan, with particular reference to who and how plays ten. The impact of Coetzee Ireland have gone off the boil big time, so much so that people are starting to question St. Joe. If he and the team can...

2016 Under-20 Rugby World Championships - Manchester UK

I'm not sure that the result in this game has caused some posters to view it with a jaundiced eye. To my mind: We outpointed Scotland everywhere but on the scoreboard. It was one of those games where nothing will go right despite the best efforts of most. We crossed the line twice but had the...

Wallabies v England, Sat 11th June, 8.00pm, Suncorp Brisbane

Clearly this series is considered the most difficult/important since it has been given the top three refs. Argentina, SA and NZ get the leftovers.

    Absolutely nailed it BR!

    Reds 2017

To state the bleeding obvious: Lancaster's game style is totally unsuitable for Super Rugby. He would have to have a "Road to Damascus" experience before he could coach to win against the five NZ teams; and if you don't beat at least two of them you can forget finals.

2016 Under-20 Rugby World Championships - Manchester UK

Turned on Fox to see the scheduled U-20's. Nothing on but golf and mungo, despite the program. Anyone know what's happening? Edit: Normal programming has resumed.

I would not be surprised, especially given Kepu's late arrival, if Holmes started at 3 with Kepu off the bench for impact. Depending how he goes, Kepu could then start in game two. Whatever might be said about the rest of the team our starting and finishing front rows are uniformly awesome.

    Waratahs 2016

Irony just does not translate to the written word.

Wallabies v England, Sat 11th June, 8.00pm, Suncorp Brisbane

If you watched the Chiefs-Waratahs game you can see how devastating forwards pop-passing to each other can be. Palu to Skelton to Hooper was just unstoppable, and some of the Chiefs inter-passing in the first half was just devastating.

Houston (and Naiyaravoro) brought themselves back to play Super Rugby. Both are part of the wider squad on performance and Cheik has them back for evaluation against their local equivalents. There will be injuries from the England series, and that's where these two guys will get a chance.

    Waratahs v Chiefs - Round 14 - Friday 27 May 2016

Interesting sidelight from the press conference. Right at the end, the question of Nayaravoro came up and Daryl said someone named Tungelli would be ready to play after the break. Those Islander pronunciations always leave me flummoxed.

    Waratahs v Chiefs - Round 14 - Friday 27 May 2016

Agreed. Started musing on us having been knocked out of the finals despite beating the comp leaders six tries to four and it meandered on from there.

    We agree to disagree.

Super Rugby Matches without a match thread

At the time I wasn't sure Herrera's offence was a red, for me it was yellow at best. I've seen plenty of cleanouts like that not even rated a penalty. Lavanini's on the other hand was totally justified and he should go for a few.

    Waratahs v Chiefs - Round 14 - Friday 27 May 2016

A month ago I posted a fairer system on the blog, but I doubt the Saffers would agree to it. The MINIMUM change I would like to see is as follows: SA teams to play 2/3 Australian teams and 3/2 NZ teams rather than the current 5/0 split. SA teams to play away matches against the Sunwolves in...
