    Ballymore Redevelopment

You can build a new stand under the MID, the question is, would the new stand (including a high-performance centre) be bigger than the old one? There's nothing stopping it from being much, much bigger, apart fro the fact that you waste money. Anything over an 11k total capacity and you lose...

    Ballymore Redevelopment

"AN" Eastern Stand, not "THE" Eastern Stand is approved under the planning permissions from the State Government. (ie, its in place and the retired town planner two streets over can't appeal it". New stand would be smaller - 5k vs the current 7.5k, because the previous QRU board f***ed it up...

    Ballymore Redevelopment

You've missed quite a bit. Rugby Australia have agreed to move the Olympic Sevens program to Ballymore if a similar high performance centre and stand is funded by government and built on the east.

    Ballymore Redevelopment

It sat outside the terms of reference. Only venues funded by the State/Federal Government under their Olympics agreement were considered.

    Queensland Reds 2024

Release mentions a reduction in funding from RA so that's the majority of the difference ...

Reds profit result. $450k EBITDA. https://qld.rugby/news/queensland-rugby-union-posts-fifth-consecutive-profit-2024216

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Remind me how that Latrobe facility - announced BEFORE Ballymore - is going? Still hasn't been built (in fact I don't think it's even been started), and meanwhile QRU are coining it in from lease revenue and events. The delay would have added $4-5 million alone in cost escalation.

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

You mean the cash that is supposed to be shared equally among RA's voting members?

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Sigh. They are if you don't have the money.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Rugby Australia had the chance to invest in Ballymore. Hamish reneged on the agreement and left QRU to pick up the funding RA had agreed to provide to the Qld Government. More fool him.

It's a draw down facility, not a loan. So, a credit card, rather than a mortgage.

Hardly unexplored. Hospital Cup/SS is on every weekend on Stan. The broadcaster knows the numbers and we can see the crowds with our own eyes if you show up to Coogee Bay Oval etc.

You'd rather have 1500 people watching GPS vs Gordon with zero broadcast revenue?
  14. Slayer!

    Australian Rugby / RA

Snore. All. It's pretty simple. What do we lack? 1. Game time for Super Rugby/Wallabies-standard players 2. More content for fans/SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) franchises and broadcast deals. So let's stop kidding ourselves with made-up NRC clubs or SS/Hospital Cup Clubs which only draw a couple thousand (yes, ok...

That would be the 4500-seat Berghofer "Stadium". You'd be better off just choosing the (mighty) Goondiwindi Emus.

"Gee, nice windows on your restaurant. Be a real shame if anything happened to them..."

    Australian Rugby / RA

What happens is Americans think "gee, this rugby looks interesting - where can I see more"...and helpfully, Major League Rugby is happening that weekend. Might be some bigger crowds at Legion and Freejacks games (which, tbh are already bigger than Brumbies and Waratahs crowds...)
  18. Slayer!

    Australian Rugby / RA

Just where do you think this magic "grassroots investment" money is coming from? Sheesh. Everyone's got a solution but no-one stops to consider how much it costs. Tahs are broke, Brumbies are on life support, Rebels are doing Rebels stuff on the RA tit... RA needs to be a bit more cost-centric...

    Australian Rugby / RA

Those membership numbers for the Reds post 2011 are rubbish. Jim Carmichael was calling anyone who could pick a Gilbert out of a lineup a "member". Same nonsense the Lions and Broncos go on with on their "member" numbers. Think they're much more honest these days.

To be fair, that's not a bad take. Much better than the clowns Pandaram and Linden, who are shitting on their own jobs by continually talking down rugby at the behest of News Corp, who are still sulking over Raelene having the temerity to put the broadcast rights up for a (gasp) competitive process.
