    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

A full home and away season with 11 teams would be 100 games (5 games per round, two byes, over 22 weeks). That's 16 more regular season games than the current one, over a longer stretch.

You'll note that none of the people who signed the "Captains' Letter" were employed by Nine.... Funny that. Almost like they wanted people who would promote the game.

One of the people from who did the deal in 2015. When it was first floated in the media I called and asked "surely this couldn't be true?". They said if the Rebels had been cut over the Force in 2017 it would have been close to $4m (big reason the Rebels were saved - this also came out in the...

Sigh. No they don't. That was another Peter V'Landys thought bubble that got picked up by his stenographers at the Daily Tele. Wrong - penalty is maybe $100k. 2025 is the last year a 10-year deal and my info is the penalty ratcheted down on a year basis. And why would Victoria back out of bidding for an event that will bring ~80,000 cashed-up fans to the city for a week?

Unfortunately the self-serving part is all about the current directors (including Leigh Clifford's daughter) getting off the hook with the ATO for their mismanagement. There is a strong argument for a Super Rugby team in Melbourne. There's an even stronger one that it should not involve any of...

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

More than half your squad is either from Brisbane or plays in Brisbane. The team won't be missed (and certainly not your tax-dodging directors). The players will find a home, the remaining four teams get a slightly better squad (although to be honest I'm not exactly sure which Rebels the Reds...

So...remind me again why the Rebels should stay in Super Rugby?

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Yes. This is EXACTLY what happened. The Administrator's report clearly showed the Rebels were getting more money than other teams. AND that they had exceeded the salary cap for at least three years that we know of, by more than $2 million. Criticise RA, yes - but criticise them for secretly...

RA never did "step in". They extended loans and/or advanced payments (much as World Rugby recently did for RA. The Reds also - and I know this may be hard for Rebels fans to comprehend - paid their tax bills.

Some history... quite a few years back the Reds settled a court case with their Perpetual Ballymore Members over access to Suncorp. (This was an old legacy thing where in the 70s you paid $3000 for perpetual (!) access to Reds matches. there was an argument over how that translated to Suncorp)...

And the Giants (and Suns) paid their tax bill. And didn't lie about it....

Or, just maybe....the directors of the Rebels who lied to everyone - including RA - should be forced to cover the costs? Which, to be honest, is what will happen with the ATO action.

Who says they lose out on money? Not having a Bledisloe in Melbourne may lose a million or so on ticket revenue, but if Queensland is paying an extra million or so?

The bit where Stooke suggests decreasing funding to the women's game and sevens is....enlightening. This is old white men shouting at clouds. A reminder that Dick Marks - part of this ridiculous putsch - was a virulent opponent of the Ballymore redevelopment, which has been the single most...
