    Where to for Super Rugby?

Pulver's only demonstrable success has been in Women's 7s, and, arguably but it was not in any way sustained into 2017, the Wallabies entering the GF in RWC 2015 (if not winning can be seen as a kind of secondary success which I suppose it can). (The NRC so far is, on objective grounds, by no...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

IIRC his base salary was c. $850,000 pa which is still very substantial, arguably unnecessarily high, for a business that is: - not large - loss-making and generally remaining so - effectively a community-oriented NFP with no shareholders per se I regularly recruit senior executive and CEOs...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

In many ways a very good, creative suggestion, the only 'but' is: where are the $s coming from to fund it all (lot of travel) and the ARU wants (in its view) the desired benefit of releasing the best of the culled team's players to the remaining 4 teams so they may well block or inhibit such an...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Prediction: it won't happen (even though I'd love it to). Australian rugby has an awful, awful history of (a) 'inner factions' either wimping out at the cusp of serious confrontations with the ultimate elite, or (b) the institutionally 'corrupt' system of interlocking self-protections for ARU...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

++ He recently advocated that we should be moving to 6 Super Rugby teams......as well as writing numerous articles totally removing and exonerating any responsibility he might have for even the smallest of the code's financial and performance problems today. It may not have wholly escaped...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The essence of the Marks article seems to me this: The move to professionalism in Australian rugby, for many reasons but nonetheless critically, never meant or yielded an comprehensive evolutionary strategy to ensure the quality, growth and organisational health of the code at all its...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

From the above Marks article, please posters indulge me a brief personal favourite: "I could easily fill the same space he was given on these pages on May 13 with what he should have and should not have done during his two tenures as ARU chief executive. These would be decisions and actions of...

    Coaching the coaches

A pity - he's one of the greatest-ever pro rugby coaches - hugely rated always by players, AB HCs plus many more. A fantastic, all-of-system, taken-highly-seriously coaching structure and coach development process and, closely related, core skills development process, are the real secrets to...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Has this delightful textual moment led you to experience what, in hippie jargon, is known as a 'natural high'?

    Where to for Super Rugby?

^^^^ someone should repeat the whole article here, it's a gem and reveals greatly as to the genesis of many of the code's severe problems today.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The article I drew from, FWIW, solely refers to the notion of a sale from Cox to Elsom, there is no mention of 'investment partnering'. But that does not mean your point could not be valid in this odd soup of a process as it unfolds...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Interesting the reports today: - Elsom 'determined' to buy the Rebels from Cox to 'save them as we must have 5 teams if ever we can get to the trans-Tasman comp we really need' - Elsom and Cox in conversations re a sale (why would Cox consider selling at all after only 2 years if the Rebels is...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Sadly, we in Australian rugby have a Chairman who thinks his national body has done quite a competent job so far of the process of culling a Super team, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary as our code spirals further into disrepute and community detachment. What hope is there for even...

    Coaching the coaches

Forwards generally, bar scrums. As the Kiwis are pioneering, or at least leading, forwards at the top level in unstructured play have to develop many of the core skills of backs to enable an even more effective, fast-paced, offloads-heavy, low-error-rate ensemble form of that mode of play...

    Coaching the coaches

No. As I mentioned in my post above re Cheika's key failing in picking a too-weak, too-thin cadre of Wallaby Assistant Coaches. I think Chek considers himself a good-enough specialist forwards coach at international level and, to me, results in and from our forwards point to the fact that he isn't.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

^^^^ Having people on boards do things for free and (very) part time, whilst sounding oh so wonderfully giving and generous is not, I assure all parties here, always the best answer in a situation requiring, necessitating, intense focus and commitment and an honest application that is way beyond...

    Coaching the coaches

Ummm yes, perhaps, but we were talking here of persons who might be candidates to assistant coach the Wallabies full-time and I somehow doubt even the great man himself would volunteer for that role today. Though he was huge for Link in getting the Reds forwards in shape S&C and playing wise...

    Coaching the coaches

Have a look at what Gillespie did at Yorkshire and C McDermott did for our quicks in his multiple periods as bowling coach for the national team. Hockey - a global game - is kind of semi-pro but as I recall we have built some exceptional coaches there. Netball is genuinely international...

    Coaching the coaches

M Foley was widely regarded as one of our best-ever forwards coaches before he was 'corrupted' when and after he took on the Tahs as HC. He was promoted as generalist beyond his competency level for that role, and it took him from his better core. Just have a look at the work he did for/with...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

If so, smart and appropriate. At last some party in this quagmire is showing some serious spine (well, to be fair, the Own the Force crews and related parties have shown plenty). RUPA is seeing Clyne's 'must meet sooner' tactic for what it clearly is: a device to avoid serious scrutiny coupled...
