RWC 2015 Semi Final 2 - Australia v Argentina Twickenham, Monday 19 October, 2:45 AEDT

Some tests might have prompted other tests. Better safe than sorry.

Even having both Pocock and Folau fit would be great, even if caution dictates against one or both playing. What was really worrying me was that they had tournement-ending injuries. Sio is less of a loss, since Slipper's such a like-for-like replacement.

I'd pay good money to see a Oz vs. SA final. Not least since then at least one of my long-shot bets will come in!

Both play wing and fullback, and we play a dual wing-fullback system, so there's a way. What would suffer would be our defence. Horne, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and (to a slightly lesser degree) Mitchell are all excellent defenders. Beale's not as bad defending at the back as many make out, but he's not in their class.

I'd be much happier if Folau had a half-back injury. Sprained mouth or something.

As we should be. It was by far our worst game of the year. Pessimists will always tend to believe that that's how we play now, like when you make an ugly face in the mirror and it sticks, but in reality we tend not to produce two in a row. In reality we're 9-1 up for the year, beat Argentina...

I thought our defence (in terms of systems and intensity) was fine. We expended as much effort as we needed to. The Scots didn't get through it, and didn't really look like getting through it. They got their field position and tries through stupid errors on our part. That's what we need to cut...

Indeed so. The Wobs had bum-clenching last-minute wins on the way to both the 1991 and 1999 world cups. In 1991 we squeaked past Western Samoa 9–3 in the pools and Ireland 19-18 in the quarters. In 1999 we beat the Saffers 27-21 in extra time in the semis.

RugbyHeaven has concocted two stories in two days from the same information concluding they will and won't play. Something there for both optimists and pessimists.

Don't forget the transmogrified goosenipple. That's been Slipper's real problem throughout the ages. I'd draw a diagram, except my explanation doesn't make sense either.

Our strategy wasn't wrong, unless our strategy was to gift the opposition three tries through basic mistakes. It was our execution that was at fault.

Interesting. There's a conspiracy in there, given the destination of the flight.

Also we beat Argentina 34-9 in Mendoza on the way to winning the RC, and have already beaten England and Wales in this tournament. The bookies aren't as neurotic as Wallaby supporters.

I agree it was terrible defending, but I can't agree on the legality. Law 15.6(d) says that players who play the ball must do so from behind the ball and from directly behind the tackled player. Horne was behind the ball, but he certainly wasn't directly behind the tackled player. He was...

RWC 2015 Semi Final 2 - Australia v Argentina Twickenham, Monday 19 October, 2:45 AEDT

We do tend to play down to the level of lower-ranked teams, but we lose about as many as we should. In fact we lose precisely as many as we should. That sounds like a strange statement, but what I mean is that we have an historical win-loss record against Ireland (for example) of about 3:1...
