    National Club Competition

Perhaps to some extent, pT, but at least in the intial stages it is only likely to run for about half a season. It might be possible for players to shift to an NCC club for the duration of the competition either in their own city or in another state and then return to their club. That was what...

    Byrnes gets 10 Weeks

Be patient, lads. Those of a literary bent may recall Jarndyce v. Jarndyce: The little plaintiff or defendant who was promised a new rocking-horse when Jarndyce and Jarndyce should be settled has grown up, possessed himself of a real horse, and trotted away into the other world. Fair wards of...

    National Club Competition

There is a simple model for a National Club Competition (NCC) which could work. I think it is more likely to be viable now that the Super competition is virtually coextensive with the club competitions in Sydney and Brisbane. This means that the professional players would be largely excluded...

Sorry, wj, I couldn't help myself.

Form Australian Players After Round 4

I don't see Luke Jones's height precluding him from developing into an international standard lock. Note the elevation achieved on Sunday by Tim Davidson who is 3cm shorter: As this photo indicates, if the concern is the height achieved by the jumper the real determinant is how high the...

    Gregan v JON

I'm having problems with your juxtapositioning of three distinct concepts, rif. I'm trying to think of examples of "serious industry leaders" who have displayed "serious business acumen". Keen insight doesn't necessarily preclude you from getting to the top but it is certainly a hindrance. And...

    Rebels v Cheetahs - Round 4 - Super Rugby 2012

There was quite a spirited rally developing between Paarl and Slim before qwerty - quite improperly in my opinion - walked onto the court and joined in. Evict the intruder and replay the point.

    Waratahs 2012

I remember saying the exact same thing to the bloke sitting alongside me at the game. Great minds think alike, Jnor.

Thanks for the counsel, barbarian, or is it an instruction? I was under the misapprehension that I contributed to discussion here on quite a diverse range of issues.

In view of this do you not think it odd, RH, that they took the field without their designated kick chaser?

    Rebels v Cheetahs - Round 4 - Super Rugby 2012

I haven't really focussed on Rodney Blake recently, Dan, but I endorse your general principle. A player who is selected as a tight forward has to do just that, play tight. Otherwise he is bludging on his mates.

    Rebels v Cheetahs - Round 4 - Super Rugby 2012

I am not averse to the use of sarcasm, qwerty, which may be why you thought so, but I think it would be really poor form to put the boot into a team which is struggling to win a game. I usually choose those in positions of power or those with extravagant egos as my targets.

    Rebels v Cheetahs - Round 4 - Super Rugby 2012

Each to his own, Brisbok. I think their last win was the 2nd of April last year. They still have a long way to go, but I thought there was a whole lot of promise in their play today. They can build on that and I think they will.

    Rebels v Cheetahs - Round 4 - Super Rugby 2012

Great effort by the Rebels in a very entertaining game. I think it's really starting to happen for them.

    Waratahs 2012

A major contributing factor to the situation that the 'Tahs find themselves in is a selection experiment that has now been demonstrated to be wrong. It will be interesting to see if coach Foley is prepared to reverse that decision or if he persists with it against the Sharks. I refer to the...

    Waratahs V Force - Superugby Rd 4

That crowd number is even more disastrous than it might appear. As Badger points out hugely discounted tickets were widely promoted and distributed. There is also the fact that a substantial proportion of the crowd are members from whom the Waratahs derive no income. Based on the evidence of...

The second option is clearly the way to go, LG. It builds on what we have.

    Waratahs 2013

You really raise an interesting hypothetical this time, wj. I must admit that the concept of management, in sport or elsewhere, being honest with their employees is not something I have previously come across in practice. Conceivably it could work. Perhaps what you are actually referring to is...

    Waratahs 2013

Ash, I think there was a perception of a link between Sydney Uni and the Rebels when the franchise started up because the Assistant Coach was recruited from Uni and there were other staff with Uni links. In addition the Rebels signed a significant number of Uni players. Since then it would...
