Gradual Unfurling of New Wallaby Coaches

Nassim Nicholas Taleb may not have visited Perth, Jnor, but Willem Hesselsz de Vlamingh certainly did. On 10 January 1697 he encountered black swans when he sailed his frigate De Geelvink up the Swan River, although recent scholarly research has conclusively established that the river was not...

    National Club Competition

I think this suggestion makes perfect sense, nomis. I am sure there would be clubs in addition to Tuggeranong and Sydney Uni who would be prepared to enter as standalones but there would be others who would want/need to combine. This is the sine qua non of a National Club Competition in its...

    Waratahs vs Sharks - RD5 2012

About time you went back to OPSM, LG. It's interesting though that us old blokes seem to regain our visual acuity when looking at women. .

Reds vs Bulls Rnd 5 2012.

Welcome aboard, TBD. You make some good and forceful points in your initial post. Now that you've broken the ice I hope we read a lot more from you.

    Waratahs vs Sharks - RD5 2012

LG is now a card-wearing member of the Fourth Estate and gets to sit in the press box with ... umm, aah; well, anyway he gets to sit in the press box. But he still has a lot to learn from the old pros. Spiro would have had two ex-All Black captains standing at the pisser. While I was typing...

Reds vs Bulls Rnd 5 2012.

And that is a disgrace; expecting young blokes to put study/career on hold to flog themselves for no recompense pursuing the dream of making it in rugby. Unfortunately it's symptomatic of the mire that Australian rugby at all levels is sinking into.

    Rebels v Force - Round 5 - Super Rugby 2012

Congratulations to the Rebels on an important breakthrough win under most difficult circumstances. It's just a shame that the victory came at the expense of another Aussie side that are also doing it tough in certain respects.

I think I'll just throw in the towel. You spend years honing your craft, struggling with the intricacies of writing satire, and having to cope with the fact that unless you put a disclaimer at the end of everything you write along the lines of, "actually I'm pulling your chain", a significant...

"Queensland Rugby Records its Largest Growth in History"

I have just been to a lunch where Eddie Cowan spoke, SF. Eddie is developing a reputation for the number of deliveries he leaves alone, but compared to some of our members he's a regular Dave Warner.

    Gregan v JON

The final ignominy. One of the great exponents of the me-at-the-centre-of-the-universe style of journalism has had his latest effort pulled and tossed into the cyberspace garbage bin. And a classic example of the genre it was: So were 40,000 other people, you knob polisher, and unlike you the...

Oscar Wilde: "I wish I had said that" James McNeill Whistler: "You will, Oscar, you will."

"Queensland Rugby Records its Largest Growth in History"

I don't know what you're crowing about, RH. I haven't got any figures but I suspect the senior state would more than match you in growth rate. We've just got to get the direction of growth right.

    Sydney University: Willie Doep

I emailed the page to Wiilie, PB. He is coaching ar Sydney Uni this year. I think it was a long while before anyone at the Club knew what a distinguished playing record he had. He is not the sort of person to self-promote and his boy has the same humble nature.

    Sydney University: Willie Doep

That was on June 11 last year. Then today: Did you have to go far to get it, PB?

    Waratahs 2012

I doubt that your form warrants it, qwerty. In any case I'd be surprised if you meet the citizenship criteria.

    Waratahs 2012

How many times do I have to give the lie to this nonsense? Not one dollar of federal funds - or state or local government funds for that matter - has been spent on sporting facilities or sporting staff at the University of Sydney ever. I repeat - not one dollar ever. I defy you to prove...

    Gregan v JON

I'm truly honoured, IS, to see that a person of your taste and discernment is the very first to sign on for the resurrection campaign for our sport. When it goes viral globally you'll be able to boast to your mates in the pub that you were the pioneer.

    Gregan v JON

If true, and I have no reason to doubt your information, IS, the situation is moving towards the irretrievable. Clearly we need something to arrest the slide and turn the code around. We need to capture people's attention and get everyone talking about rugby. Ever keen to be helpful, I have...

    Waratahs 2012

I have to admit, RH, that that observation isn't really mine but came from conversations I have had with Chris Malone who is back at Sydney Uni as their High Performance Coach. Chris of course was a renowned exponent of strategic kicking.

    Waratahs 2012

Another aspect of our abysmally low standard kicking, RH, is that so much of it is done under pressure. Effective strategic kicking should be done with good ball not bad ball. If you want the ball to "land in open space forcing the oppo's back 3 to run laterally rearwards" or find the sideline...
