    Rebels v Reds 25/03 @ AAMI

When are the Rebels going to realise that Talakai is a 3rd choice TH.
  2. Wallaby Man

    Rebels 2023

Injuries are obviously a common thing in rugby but no team manages to year in year out miss key players over considerable amounts of time like the Rebels do. Hardwick Hodge Philip Leota Kellaway You could argue are in the conversation for their 5 best players. All missing large chunks of the...

Agreed. We could potentially have Jorgensen, Sua'ali'i and Petaia as a back 3 at some stage all in their prime. Athletically could be the most impressive back 3 ever, let’s see how they turn out as rugby players but no doubting the potential there.

    Australian Rugby / RA

I’d be astonished to find out it’s 1.6m. Remember the last time this happened with speculation and RA came out and said the amounts talked about were ludicrous and not remotely close to the amount. But people still continued to believe the NRL focused journalists amounts. I wouldn’t be...
  5. Wallaby Man

    Rebels v Reds 25/03 @ AAMI

Rebels need to win this upfront otherwise no chance. Reds have a slight advantage in the backrow although not much, think some are a little overrated. But the back lines are in different leagues.

    Waratahs 2023

Saw interview with him recently and this is exactly what happened. Was a league junior that went to a rugby school. I’d say a large portion of our Super Rugby player did exactly the same. Tim Horan was a league kid that went to a rugby school.

    Rebels 2023

I’m not fussed by club names next to players. Personally believe it doesn’t add anything except often fake connection and window dressing. There is a considerable amount of guys in Super Rugby that have minimal connection with their nominated clubs (equally plenty have lots of connection). A lot of the...

I think the inevitable is something like this. - Short SRAU comp used as a warm up and development for Super Rugby teams (4 games + final) - Then RC played (6N to move slightly to mirror same weekends) - Then single round Super Rugby (11 games + finals) - Then some form of comp with Japanese teams (whatever this...

    Aussie Player Exodus

There just isn’t enough games in Super Rugby to keep fringe guys interested. As much as many glorify the amateur comps we have, every single young player dreams of being on the big stage, getting paid to play for meaningful comps, been on tv and getting the opportunity to prove themselves that...

Be cautious reading into this graph. It contains data from Covid affected seasons (teams not allowed to play at home), it’s also dependent on reporting techniques, etc. I’d be highly surprised if the Reds (with half the amount of games) are generating twice the amount in memberships and match...

The numbers are silly. I love my rugby but been a born and bred QLD it’s not even comparable. These numbers are self reported, so could contain some children that get a single ‘rugby’ session at school as a participant. Rugby is more popular than people give it credit for in QLD and would be...

    Chiefs v Rebels 14:35 18/03

Some strange decisions that’s day. Pretty sure it was the same match Pone got penalized and yellow carded for a perfectly legal tackle where he absolutely mutilated someone, the Chiefs player lashed out and nothing happened. There was also a strange decision given in one of the chiefs try’s...

    Aussie Player Exodus

We have been through the court in Australia about the draft and it ruled in the players favor. As Highlander said, it’s a delicate balance between the parties to ensure players aren’t wanting to take legal action. The court case I was referring to was in the NRL when in the early 90s tried to...

    Aussie Player Exodus

If WR (World Rugby) applied its own laws it’s still doesn’t mean it’s legally binding. Soccer went through this 30yrs ago with the Bosman ruling. Where clubs were demanding compensation for out of contract players etc. the player took it to the European court which ruled in his favor. It’s why free transfers...

Likewise no player going to sign a 4yr $85k deal. Can earn more on a worksite. Or any franchise offer large amounts for 5yr deal with the risk of injury, when the salary cap is low as it is. French clubs can absorb some unavailable players in their cap space if injuries arise over time.

Perhaps RA contracting going forward should include buy out clauses. Say Tupou $1m if another team wanted his services during his contract period. Maybe this would encourage French clubs etc, however would then require the player to agree to the destination and contractual terms on the other end...

Legally it doesn’t work that way. Why would a player or another business pay someone else financial compensation when there was no binding contract between the parties any more. It would have to be applied across all industries and all business, it just wouldn’t happen.

Under a transfer system like football every one of these wouldn’t of got a $$ from another club. All either moved at end of contract (free transfer) or moved because contract was in breach (Covid pay reduction). FIFA does have some u21 rule that requires compensation but hard to explain.

    Aussie Player Exodus

Problem there isn’t enough money in rugby (all the comps pay small fry compared to other pro sports) to transfer meaningful amount of cash. The transfers that have happened have been few and far between. Plus players almost always leave at the end of their contractual obligations, so aren’t...
  20. Wallaby Man

    Waratahs 2023

It’s the double whammy of not been able to offer enough cash to compete and the shortness of the Super Rugby comp also means players in the wider squad aren’t provided enough opportunity to play games. Two options are basically earn more and play more at a higher professional standard or earn less and...
