    NSW CCC Rugby 2012

Hugh, Sorry about that misread the other stream blog. However doesn't detract from the point I was making, you don't have to go to a GPS school to make it in rugby, don't believe the marketing. You're correct in how the $ play out, if you gave out 3 scholarships at $40000 a time then $120000 out...

    NSW CCC Rugby 2012

Got some feedback from the Illawarra CCC U16 boys and parents last Sunday (U17 Viqueens vs Shamrocks game). I have been for some time been trying to convince the boys that the rugby private schools are not such a big deal. They're better at marketing than they are at rugby coaching. This was...

    NSW U/16 Rugby 2012

10to12, Thoroughly agree, to get a high level of rugby: To commit to rugby first. Play lots of hard rugby week in week out. This happens when the boys get to play Colts and it all gets sorted out there. Until then just have fun playing rugby, it's a good sport.

    Illawarra Rugby 2012

Wreckless, You must be a Vikings supporter because that's what they said. However the nice Shamrock supporters were immediately concerned for the ref. making polite enquiries about his eyesight and his state of mind. He seemed to think they were OK, but the Shamrocks concern remained. We can...

    Illawarra Rugby 2012

I know a couple of the Illawarra U15s are very serious about thier rugby and need to learn to contol their mouths, however they are good kids and need to calm down a little (Illawarra vs Hunter is always a passionate game). 15-16 is a difficult age. Rugby is a very good vehicle for teaching boys...

    Illawarra Rugby 2012

Hey all, Congratulations U10 Illawarriors A big congratulations to the Under 10 Illawarriors at the State Championships. They were the only team to go through the weekend undefeated. Here are their results: v Eastwood 24-5 v West Harbour 17 – 12; v Southern Districts 31 – 5; v...

    Illawarra Rugby 2012

wreckless- I think you just largely agreed with me. My point is that the U17s team had been gutted by the GPS, no team could sustain loosing that many talented players without being very badly affected. My view is that given the disaster that unfolded in the shadow of that gutting (loss of...

    Illawarra Rugby 2012

Wreckless, I watch the remaining Illawarra team play at the country championships this year. I was very impressed with how they played, given the number of players they lost to the GPS. The Illawarra is really producing some very good players who understand the patterns of play and the work...

    Illawarra Rugby 2012

Wreckless, This happened last year in the country U15s, it was a jaw dropping decision. It was big problem for the team that year which ended up performing well below potential. In all other areas it was a very good team with the likes of John Walker and Jakob Sedgman etc in it. One of the...

    NSW CCC Rugby 2012

Rugby mum, Your observations about Tyler and Keiron are as I saw them at the CCC trials (Richmond). Tyler is a very mobile hooker and is constantly looking for work, as is Keiron from the 2nd row. I really rate Keiron as a line-out jumper BUT he needs his lifters to get the timing right. If...

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2012

Sorry whatever, I was hoping to get some feedback also, from an adult. The only information I can get from the Illawarra CCC boys is, they lost (2 tries to 0??) they lost all their own scrum feed, the lineouts were a mess and they played like "sh!t" (they did not learn those words from me...

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2012

No9, You were probably talking about the CCC CHS opens?? My comments were about the U16s so ignore question, unless you saw the U16s game. I need to take 5 before hitting the key board.

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2012

No9, Your view was that the CCC lineout was weak. At the CCC trials I thought that the linejumper Keiran Bonin was outstanding however the lifters (props) that they went for had a lot of trouble with their timing. Is that what you saw in the CCC lineout?

    NSW CHS Rugby 2012

I know Paul Ridgway very well, he's a first class coach, he'll work very well with Paul Kipp, both will handle 16 year old boys well (keep them focussed). I think this U16 team is in with a good chance. Names to watch Tommy Sawden, Raui Poaru and Ben Horton all from the Illawarra team all very...

Wollongong Vikings 2nds and did last year to (ie at 17). Don't know if he is related to Gareth.

    NSW CCC Rugby 2012

There was a good spread of the selection in the U16 team (no sign of bias) however it seemed to me that the CCC is passing up the opportunity to pick a very competitive rugby union team at the expense of developing union players out of league. There is no doubt in my mind that there was enough...

    NSW CCC Rugby 2012

I agree with your comments. I was at the trials for last 2 days (I'm a disappointed U16 Southern Sydney/Wollongong dad, so my comments must be seen in this context). This is how I saw it play out: there were 3 purely union teams at the trials SS/Woll, Broken Bay and Lismore (the others were...
