    Brumbies 2015

With 3 away wins, the Hurricanes are in a very strong position already, and playing well. They seem to have a better balanced team than the Chiefs.

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

If a matter is going to trial in the Supreme Court, rather than being determined in the Magistrates Court, then there will usually be a Committal Hearing. At that hearing the prosecution have to present enough evidence for the defendant to be committed for trial. It is not a determination of...

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

Actually our legal systems are completely different. The Police lay charges and prosecute the case, not a District Attorney or similar. Originally there were Police prosecutors but that function has been largely handed to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Even so, the roles of a DA and DPP...

    EOYT 2014

I saw Arnold play 3 games for the Vikings in the NRC. You couldn't miss him, at 6'11". I think I read somewhere he will the tallest player in Super Rugby if he gets a game. He isn't Skelton size, though. On the field he looks pretty solid, but when you stand next to him he is very tall and...

    The League Media

There was an article in today's Australian by a sports reporter called Will Swanton. It was headed "Jarryd Hayne exposes NRL as small time code" Some quotes: It’s NSW’s and Queensland’s Pastime. It’s a small and insular competition that the superstars are outgrowing. But then he goes back to...

    The League Media

This from an article in today's Australian by Craig Bellamy, coach of the Melbourne Storm: AS the season unfortunately finished prematurely for Melbourne Storm, I was recently able to catch up with some of my mates from the bush. Like them, I’m an old bastard too — mid-50s now. And while...

Personally, I think papabear is partially right - AFL is the main threat, but to League, not Union. With the allure of Olympic inclusion, plus the publicity of high profile defections to play in the World Cup, I don't think Union is anywhere near dead in Australia. That doesn't mean it will...

    The League Media

Modified rules for kids have dramatically reduced the possibility of major injuries. For example, I have read on here that we are at disadvantage against other schoolboy nations, because our junior scrums don't push. Of course, you see the tragic injuries to senior players like Alex McKinnon...

    The League Media

That is probably true. However, it shows a couple of things: 1. Soccer and AFL are not the safe sports for kids that parents (anecdotally) think they are 2. Of the two, AFL has a lower rate of participation, but a higher rate of injury requiring hospitalisation. In fact, looking at...

This is from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, which is a Government agency: This is from the Australian Health and Welfare Agency, a Government department: Around half of the injury hospitalisations that occurred during sporting and leisure activities occurred while playing...

He'll want to play better than he did yesterday for the Vikings. His ball security was very poor.

NRC Rd 3 UC Vikings v Qld Country - Sat 6th September

PS I don't think there could be an official crowd figure because there are no turnstiles at the game to count them. Tickets are just punched at the gate like an old fashioned bus conductor.

NRC Rd 3 UC Vikings v Qld Country - Sat 6th September

I didn't get a number on the crowd, but it was as big as the first home game. The grandstand on the western side was full, and the eastern side where we were was well populated as well. I didn't try and estimate the crowd at the time, but at a guess I would say 2,000.

NRC Rd 3 UC Vikings v Qld Country - Sat 6th September

Oh, and the 14 who took Speight's place had a very strong game. Tomane had a poor game, with several errors, including gifting a try to Qld I the first half.
