SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) Trials: QLD Reds v Western Force, Ballymore, 3/2/24 @ 3:00pm AEST

I thought Faessler threw one over his target once, but could be wrong. He’s normally pretty good though and Daly looks a good target so I feel the lineout will be fine. A few things tighten up after the throw/catch but to be expected and given we were missing our two most experienced locks I...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) Trials: QLD Reds v Western Force, Ballymore, 3/2/24 @ 3:00pm AEST

Interesting game. Reds created opportunities but very loose in attack. Lacked ball control and very poor securing our own breakdown. Scrum was generally good. Lineout up and down. Cormac Daly was very good I thought and that’s a big plus because lock is probably our weakest spot. I have been...

Haha - that’s okay. Sometimes I take a long, winding road to get to my point and people get lost along the way.

Super Rugby trial Rebels v Tahs (Sat 3 Feb)

Was only released for the Perth leg. Although Manetti has come out and said he would like more access to some of the Super players who he would like to have competing for spots in the Olympic squad I believe he is at the mercy of the Super teams.

That was what I was trying to allude to.

    Waratahs 2024

Sinclair is an interesting choice. I know leadership groups are often broad, but I would have thought with guys like Holloway, Hanigan & Foketi that selection in the leadership group means Sinclair is likely part of the match day 23 at least. Good for him - was a decent contributor last year but...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) Trials: QLD Reds v Western Force, Ballymore, 3/2/24 @ 3:00pm AEST

Seems a strange choice though with Nasser, Asiata & Craig all in the squad. Especially when it would appear that there was an opportunity to give him time at prop. I wouldn’t have thought there would be too much concern about giving their 5th best hooker a run so I feel like there must be either...

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) Trials: QLD Reds v Western Force, Ballymore, 3/2/24 @ 3:00pm AEST

I do like the team though. Very keen to see how the backline operates and to see some of the reserves who I am not really familiar with get a crack.

Also interesting that Ryan Smith not included but also not listed in the players not considered due to injury. But I wonder if that is more a sign that they want to use the trials to give some of the next tier of locks some experience?

Is George Blake the reserve hooker? Does he play any hooker at club?

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) Trials: QLD Reds v Western Force, Ballymore, 3/2/24 @ 3:00pm AEST

I assume the team for the first trial gets named today? I know it’s only a trial but with a couple of the additions the the squad & the change of coach I’m pretty keen to see the first side (plus it just means rugby is almost starting again and that in itself is enough to get me excited)

All the rest - absolutely fair enough. But wingers and half backs deserved to be scorned and ridiculed.

    Wallabies 2024

IMO that’s irrelevant and also misleading. Whilst pilfering skill is practiced across the board there are players who rarely make turnovers. Every player in the Australian team CAN pilfer also. But, just like the French, most of them rarely do. For example, Nic White obviously can make a...

    Wallabies 2024

I’m biased but I personally think McReight remains the stand out choice if we want a player in a traditional Aussie 7 role. I thought he was a level above either Wilkin or Brown last year. If, however, Schmidt opts for a larger backrow then the likes of Wright, Gamble, Uru and possibly even...

    SVNS Series 2023/24

I only got to watch the semi & final, but it seemed like the inclusion of Lancaster came at the expense of James Turner who was outstanding in Cape Town. Or was there another reason he was on reduced minutes. Not saying Lancaster isn’t very handy but as a straight swap I don’t know if he is will...

    SVNS Series 2023/24

The Argentinian’s are on a different level to everyone else at the moment. Congrats to them - shows the benefit of a long term, strategic plan with a relatively narrow focus. Disappointing from the Aussies - but 2nd for two tournaments in a row is still pretty bloody good. Hutchinson will be...

    SVNS Series 2023/24

Well done Ireland. Too good. I feel like we had too many power players and not enough speed to capitalise on our normal game style - but I guess without Terita & Madi Levi and with Kaitlin Shave being very early in her career it was understanble to play the experienced players.
