    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Slightly off topic given rugby thread but are you questioning where these boys came from or holding them up as strong development programmes because one of these schools had only one boy out of the last 3 VIII's who was not there day 1 year 7 and he came in yr10 and is a son of an old boy who...

    Shute Shield 2010

As mentioned on another thread NFJ was young in year 12 and behind a mercurial half by the name of Murray McGain who was in his second year in the 1sts and led them to a premiership. I seem to recall Phil Kearns was also young within his year.

    wallabies definitly in starting side?

Agree - a common factor indeed - seemingly built around a less than fully positive attitude - can RD get into his head or not as he is still potentially one of our best?

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2010

Thanks Peter - '79 was an interesting year with Nick F-J (u17) playing seconds and then captain of football Murray McGain (u18) playing firsts at hb and going on to play first grade at Gordon - it was also the last time Joeys finished bottom after stellar years 76-78.

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2010

Congrats to Newington - I will leave it to the old boys to debate how this game compared to the last round match with Scots in '79, with Scots travelling to Stanmore looking for a win and a share of the premiership and New giving them a hiding 30-0, which in those days (4 point tries and the...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2010

The question is how many of the XV are on "all-rounder" scholarships, which can start in year 7, not why does Newington have a longstanding relationship with Tonga. I am close to a number of people at the school and it would seem not all of the school favours having these "scholars".

    Dwyer speaks truth

Totally agree with the point about slow delivery of the ball from the breakdown - why wait for the defence to realign (get back onside or get off the ground) when you have a better opportunity to penetrate - I wonder if they are deliberately slowing it down to give their plays a breather.

    RUGBYS CULTURAL PROBLEM

High schools were good supporters of rugby before sport in high schools was emasculated by the politically correct set (resulting in loss of male teachers who could coach). CHS had one of the best teams ever in 1974 and there where numerous high school boys in the 77 schoolboys. Problem was...
