    IRB to become "World Rugby"

It doesn't seem ideal that there was only 1 nominee for each position. I do like Pichot a lot though, he's a real driving force for growing the game. I'd guess that Beaumont is more conservative, he's certainly part of what you might call the world rugby establishment. I hope this doesn't mean...

    HSBC 7's ROUND 6 - VANCOUVER

Isn't the honey badger supposed to be playing sevens this season? Seems like he's been doing some travel recently based on his twitter account, no sign of him even training with the sevens squad. I really doubt his chances of making the olympics team, but surely he has to play in at least 2 or 3...

    HSBC 7's ROUND 6 - VANCOUVER

In the space of a week Kenya go from beating New Zealand 22-0 to losing to Russia 24-7. Crazy!

    HSBC 7's: ROUND 5 - LAS VEGAS

Another thing to consider is that Quade hasn't gone through a proper conditioning program for 7's. He's got 15's legs and lungs! This isn't going to change in a week, but I think he'll be primed going into the Olympics. This will make a big difference. He was probably pretty gassed by the final...

    HSBC 7's: ROUND 5 - LAS VEGAS

You could describe a lot of the Fijian players in the same way and they seem to do alright. I think Quade's strengths are more of an advantage in 7's than 15's. X Factor is a necessity, teams don't just win playing good structured rugby. This was his first 7's tournament and despite playing...

    HSBC 7's: ROUND 5 - LAS VEGAS

Disappointing to lose the final but lets keep this in perspective. Before this season I don't think many people would have considered our men's team much of a chance of winning a medal in Rio, let alone the gold. And now we're looking like strong contenders! That's great progress in a short...

    HSBC 7's: ROUND 5 - LAS VEGAS

I reckon Quade will be there. He was very good against England and he's only going to improve when he gets proper sevens preparation and conditioning. His long passing game is a big weapon to have. How on earth did NZ lose to Kenya 22-0!?

    HSBC 7's: ROUND 5 - LAS VEGAS

I think if he's fully fit and firing in the training camps before the Olympics then he has to be in the squad.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Brazil also had some type of partnership with the Canterbury Rugby Union for several years. They sent over coaches and other resources so that would have helped development. And more recently their coaches have been Argentinians. Not sure if the team that beat the US had any of their sevens guys...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Brazil just beat the USA Eagles 24-23 in the Americas Rugby Championship! USA were playing an experimental line up but it's still an enormous upset. 42nd in the world beating 16th.

    Rugby TV Ratings 2016

Unfortunately the Waratahs / Reds game was so dire for large parts, especially in the 2nd half. I can imagine some of the fringe fans who watched last night probably won't be tuning back in. The best thing that could happen for super rugby tv ratings in Australia would be for Australian...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Good info. I think it's the only way for the SANZAAR nations to fend off the financial threat of French and English rugby long term. It'll also accelerate the competitiveness of the global game, which will allow eventual expansion of the Rugby Championship as well (doubt it'll be too long until...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Agustin Pichot recently posted a picture on instagram of the Real Madrid training facility, with a comment about a new project for the future of Argentine rugby starting to take shape. This comes after a similar visit last year to Barcelona and comments that a Spanish / Argentinian super rugby...

    Sunwolves v Lions Rnd 1 2016

Yeah decent performance by the Sunwolves, especially given the lack of preparation. Hiwasa at halfback gets them playing very quickly when they have the ball and Horie led well from the front. I thought that Durutalo, the American flanker, was excellent too.

    Sunwolves v Lions Rnd 1 2016

Some decisions going the way of the Sunwolves since the yellow. Love all the fans howling in the crowd haha.

    Sunwolves v Lions Rnd 1 2016

Probably biased but I think the Lions have been getting the rub of the green with the ref throughout the game. The yellow card being the worst of it.

    Sunwolves v Lions Rnd 1 2016

I don't think the Singapore games are sold out. It's a big stadium in Singapore, and I doubt many there would feel a true affiliation with the team.

    Sunwolves v Lions Rnd 1 2016

I've heard this first home game is sold out. Apparently the jerseys too.

    Sunwolves v Lions Rnd 1 2016

I just hope the Sunwolves don't get hammered. I think on paper they could be competitive with a team like the Lions, but having only a couple of weeks together before the season is such a huge disadvantage.

    Cheetahs vs Jaguares - Round 1, 2016

Cheetahs scored an intercept try and then, when the Jaguars were down to 14 men a penalty try (foul play not from a scrum), and then 2 more tries while the Jaguars had 13 players, and still couldn't win.
