As Braveheart said, from previous chatter, there's a very reasonable chance he wanted a move back to Qld, the Reds didn't want him, and this was a means to that end. The whole 'love for the game' argument is something so far removed from professionalism. I love the industry I work in, but that...

Fuck basing your employment decisions around love for the game when your employer's just gone tits up, you were made a scapegoat when prematurely thrown into the deep end on the biggest stage, have seemingly fallen out of favour as a result, and have a limited earnings window in the profession.

Whether or not RA had already made a decision about the Rebels that long ago, regardless of the viability of the Tarneit proposal, they wouldn't have been able to actually do anything formally with contracts (incl. serious discussions) until recently.

    Wallabies 2024

2-3 weeks (hell, add a few more on if you want) is a totally normal and not-at-all unrealistic amount of time to negotiate the future contracts of 30-odd players, managing their undoubtedly set-in-stone and completely manageable wants and needs with those of the other clubs around the country!

    Aussie Player Exodus

Good in theory, but somewhat hard to achieve in practice for professional sport where the contracting environment, wants and needs of both players and clubs, injury landscape, etc. are so dynamic. The same goes for any business for that matter.

The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence..... Unless you have actual insight into what conversations have/haven't been had, and what deals have/haven't been made, I don't think this is a fair comment.

Question is whether he's in the Wobs squad now - you'd have to assume no and one of the younger 10s come in.

    Queensland Reds 2025

Isn't there talk of the squad size growing to allow the Rebels players to slot in more easily? Could be the case that only one, or no one, has to go

1000 pages in - surely we've cracked it by now?

Not to be presumptive of the point @mst was trying to make, but I think it was more around the case that the hype which absolutely existed during the COVID-affected domestic competitions may have subsided a bit post-COVID if we had continued with the domestic structure, not that it's returned to...

The suggestion of exploring that format isn't the issue with the article - it's the "back in the good old days" way it's presented, as well as the obvious pot-stirring re: the Rebels to drive clicks

In all honesty I can't see this happening, nor a Western Sydney team more generally for some time. Relocating the Brums would be a costly exercise for bugger all benefit, and moving them into what is now an NRL stronghold would make the bean counters nervous about recouping those costs. The...

    Queensland Reds 2025

I think a lot of that is what he brings in shifting young players' mindsets towards hard work and professionalism. The enormous cultural shift Thorn drove at the Reds, particularly in the early years, has been quickly forgotten by some imo.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Understood, but I tried to find the original source of the figures and couldn't. Would be interested to see if this achieved using bandwidth metrics, persons surveyed, actual subscription numbers, etc.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

From a quick look at the source it doesn't seem to list the sample size or methods to arrive at these stats - not saying they're unreliable, but would be curious

I guess the tradeoff is that Petaia seems more agile / elusive to my eyes - regardless, I expect we'll see some fun little battles between the two of them (assuming Petaia sticks around)

You may, or you may get frustrated customers - particularly those who are less technologically literate. This is a secondary reason though imo - Braveheart and Slim have eloquently summarised what I agree are the core reasons.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

It's simpler for the customer and for marketing to distinguish the two

9Now is purely to capture those who want terrestrial programming via the internet (e.g., using an Apple TV), with Stan being distinguishable as a subscription-based on-demand service. Partly a marketing exercise to align the two free 9 platforms (by name and branding) and keep Stan separate, but...
