Assess each boy's skills base (as far as time allows) and seek to enhance it during the season. Don't try to be too complex (assume we not talking rep std), and get your set pieces working early (ie not kicking off into touch on the full). Also, a bit of team spirit and teamwork always helps...

I think ON85's point is that the New Allrounders should theoretically excell both academically and in their other pursuits, be it music, sport, drama, debating etc. I understand there may have been instances where the scholarships have been revoked because of narrow contribution.

Showing my age but league was the game at a public primary school in my day (6 stoners etc). Rugby was a club sport.

Thanks ON85, my direct experience is swimming where there have been a number of non-performing "All-Rounders" including the son of a council member. My New nephews, full fee paying, think it is hilarious.

Seemingly odd for Uni to be offering incentives to non-USyd undergrads - happens in other sports and it becomes somewhat farcical when they turn up for another Uni at inter-varsity.

Having observed Shore's rugby programme and been involved with a village club I would argue that Phil Waugh's development was more likely due to his club - happy to be corrected. Shore has along with Iggies the biggest pool of non-imported talent but cannot seem to develop. Eg A thirds prop...

Indeed the Floating Stadium is the size of a football field with adjoining seating for 27000. Would probably need a natural turf surface to be laid - big ask. Would prefer same setup as the Sevens at Padang next to cricket club - temporary stands for 4000 with the Guinness long bar behind one...
