    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

My post is not in any way talking up Riverview. MW wanted a run down and thats what I saw, and heard on the day. Knowing some of the people there i havent found anyone who is hyping the team up at all..They expect they will have a solid side which makes sense, but as we all know in school boy...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

Yes I saw both 1st and 2nds. Riverview 2nds were outplayed, but as fireball said you just can't read too much into it. Talking to those in the know at view and there was around 7 or 8 1st players out, and in total there is around 12 or more boys to return that will be 1sts or 2nds. That suggests...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

McGregor didn't play as was the case with majority of the expected 1st XV back line. I managed to get down to watch the game. It looked only freeman ( who started at 7) and stageman who went off after about 10 mins were the only expected backs on the field. The back you are talking about is Tom...

    CAS Rugby 2014

To be honest I don't have much intel on this years CAS contenders, but from the reports I heard from last weeks trial between Riverview and Waverly, I can't see Waverly making a claim for the title given Riverview had about 7 returning or likely 1st XV players out and Waverly crossed the line...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Hugh, the ARU have a network of Talent Identification Scouts. Some are ARU staff, but many aren't. I believe the TID process is being coordinated by Adrian Thomson ( Australian U 20 coach, could be wrong). I have been told the scouts have been allocated to JGC games and then collated feed back...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

That concept certainly makes some sense. Actually if the 15's can still offer a pathway from club / zone/ syd to NSW for th e15's then that age group would still sit fine with club. And to honest the pressure that everyone goes on about school sstopping 15's from playing club is rubish. There is...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

Faul would be an unlikely starter any of the GPS 1st XV sides due to a lack of experience. He is a big kid with a lot of potential but he is still really only learning the game. Big and strong with a good amount of potential, but way off pace technically at that level. He has shone against...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

I've seen plenty of state championships as well, and let me assure you the difference between the top 2 or 3 sides to the rest is quantum, so similar outcomes to what is happening in some JGC games. The higher level reference is to the overall quality of coaching compared to club. There are...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

HJ I think that is spot on. The ARU to my knowledge have never classified the JGC as elite. The NGS , now rebadged as NSW / qld etc under 18's is what they would see as elite, but they don't promote it that way, in fact they are very big on ensuring those boys lucky enough to be there see it a...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

there's as much smoke and fire on this one as there was at Barangaroo yesterday afternoon.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Have no facts on this but I think they may probably still run the schools tournament regardless of no 16's national comp. I think that schools would still want to start looking at those boys coming through for an early indication for opens rep honours in CAS, GPS , CHS etc. Also not sure what...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Heard it from both inside the NSW Schools and also contacts familiar with the SJRU. So it would be fairly safe to say the National 16's will not be hosted by the ARU.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

In response to what afl hands out is based on their revenue take from tv deals as is loig, Rugby is not in any position at present to do that. In terms of soccer, a mate of mine who has spent many years as a club president of a large junior club tells me soccer has funded from grass roots up the...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Sadly I get the sentiment that much of the opinion here is more about a non rugby view of the merits of private schooling v public schooling. Much of the club scene is populated by both, and the club scene needs both to be healthy. The perspective that schools will fall in line with the ARU, or...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

So a $200 levy is about $8-10 on average per head on a team of 20-23?. Seriously, why everyone is so wound up about this is beyond me. The kids ( especially the forwards) would devour that and more at the BBQ and canteen. It would be different if the ARU had not cut its staff numbers, players...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

I take your point. I have said on previous posts that clubs also need to genuinely up their offering to attract more players. If your competing against loig etc for players then the clubs must offer a structured outcomes based program per age group. I could retire on how many times I have heard...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Not sure if there are any club registrars on this thread, or someone who has access to the data, but I would be very interested in the stats of the bigger clubs, such as Lindfield, Lane cove , Wahroonga, on the North shore or anywhere else for that matter, what is the break down by age group of...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

Depending on the dates of those trials I would say that the GPS athletes will either not play or if they it would only be limited time on the field. That would mean possibly 5 or 6 would be out. I think that would be the case for all the schools that have 1sts players doing aths.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Excellent response. I know one if the gold cup selectors and the desire to have not necessarily just private school boys was strong. The ARU have created the gold cup for a lot of reasons. They recognise a real need to develop players early and are investing in it. The age groups of 15 and 17...
