Super Rugby AU Round 7 - Force vs Waratahs @ Robina - Friday 14 August

While we're at it, can we outlaw the blockers who position themselves in front of the 9 at every box-kick? They move into a position where they are in front of the ball whilst it's in the ruck, for no purpose other than to block legitimate tacklers. I don't understand how this isn't a penalty...

Super Rugby AU Round 7 - Force vs Waratahs @ Robina - Friday 14 August

Beat me to the punch, Drew. According to rugby.com.au, HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) benched for workload management off the short turn-around.

Super Rugby AU Round 7 - Force vs Waratahs @ Robina - Friday 14 August

Any reason why HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) would move to the bench for the Tahs? I thought he was considered first choice. But otherwise, very pleasing to see the stability in selection that the Tahs have managed for a few weeks now, great for building combinations and confidence.

    Australian Rugby / RA

You're underselling rugby. It's really the only team sport where a bloke who's tubby, not great aerobically, perhaps not great on the ball skills, can still go a long way. And that's a great thing, especially at the junior level. Sure, it doesn't have much to offer the youngster who doesn't want...

    Australian Rugby / RA

Keep in mind, one version of the story was that he was being offered an 18 month contract from RA - whilst he couldn't be playing NRL because of his age - and during that time, he could potentially go to the Olympics and play with the Tahs. And then, if he wanted, head off to play NRL in 2022...

    Australian Rugby / RA

But jeez, wasn't it great fun to rage against the incompetence of RA again for a day or two, based on FAKTS!! from NewsCorp?

2020 Super Rugby AU Round 4 Waratahs vs Melbourne Rebels

Yes. The worst thing about being a Tahs fan is that when you're celebrating a great performance by the team, you know you're only a week or two away from a massive disappointment. I'd like to think this was characteristic of a very young team, struggling to get back up after a Brumbies game...

    Australian Rugby / RA

He doesn't have a manager, apparently, which is both pleasing and concerning. I think RA's comments have been pretty sensible so far, but I agree, it would be best to just shut up now and do the deal behind closed doors.

    Waratahs 2020

Clearly a no-nonsense fellow, from the look of that haircut. And the enlightened Fox Sports commentary tells me he's from Mosman - and a hooker - so obviously he's in line for the RA CEO job.

    2020 Super Rugby Round 3 - Waratahs v Brumbies @ ANZ Stadium - Saturday 18 July

Yes, agree - the Brumbies were throwing up a "shooter" in defence outside of him to block the pass, trying to cramp him like the Force did previously. When that happens, he's not afraid to straighten up and take the heavy contact, which is good to see. Possibly missed a couple of opportunities...

    2020 Super Rugby Round 3 - Waratahs v Brumbies @ ANZ Stadium - Saturday 18 July

Funny thing, crowd noise. I was in line with that critical lineout for the Brumbies at about the 75 minute mark, and all of a sudden, the crowd really amped up around us and it was quite loud - though probably just in comparison with the previous quiet. Disappointing loss for the Tahs, but so...

    2020 Super Rugby Round 3 - Waratahs v Brumbies @ ANZ Stadium - Saturday 18 July

I've always liked the idea of refereeing team working together for an extended period, to gain some cohesion. Gardner and Perrett worked together last week, not sure about Keane. Might be a benefit of the smaller pool of officials working the SRAU games.

    Waratahs 2020

Tickets for the Force game were allocated to members through an expression of interest - I haven't seen the same request for the Brumbies game yet. So they still need to request interest from members, and allocate those tickets, before they go to Ticketek for the general public.

    Wallabies 2020

Yes, Hunt's kicks were good strategy and good execution even if there was no 50/22 rule. Whilst I confess I might have been one of those in the crowd shouting for the Tahs to run rather than kick early in the second half, they knew better. That strategy made it clear to the Force that there...

    Wallabies 2020

Whilst I think tours are great, and I hope we can see some mid-week games in future years from touring NH sides, it won't work this year. Players will still be in "bubbles" to minimise COVID risk, so no chance to see the players outside of the tests. And both countries desperately need the gate...

    Waratahs 2020

Well, it's pretty tough for Bailey, arriving only just before the season, huge changes in players, lot of young players, new head coach, only working as a contractor, and only six games in. Hard to blame him altogether.

    Waratahs 2020

The shrivelling of the coaching pathways is perhaps the most under-appreciated part of the whole mess Australian rugby is currently in. Develop one good player, and you've got one good player. Develop one good coach, and you'll get dozens of good players over a career. At every level from under...

    Waratahs 2020

Tom Decent is reporting on Twitter that Jason Gilmore, coach of the U20 Wallabies, is being brought in as Tahs defence coach, with Phil Bailey moving on. Gilmore seems like a good coach, could be really positive. Although I'd also like to see consistency in the coaching of the junior rep teams.
