Knox 52 defeated a surprisingly tough Cranbrook 23. (Seven tries to two) knox definitely needs better software on the fancy scoreboard. Knox showed some good touches but are still not travelling as well as they would like. Cranbrook 12 was good. Neither kicker, both the 10s missed a kick at...

    CAS Rugby 2015

I agree that two of the games this week will be close and important as to the final order of the competition. Coming into Round 5 we see 4 sides equal on 4 points. Who would have thought that at the start of the season? The other game sees the unbeaten side play the winless side. Knox versus...

    CAS Rugby 2015

I think the CAS 1sts will have a good strong forward pack. The baacks mix will be interesting. Whether they go for proven combinations or best for the position will make things interesting. This week: Aloys vs Knox Knox should win, but they have struggled a bit at Willoughby recently and...

Trinity gave Knox a tough workout and were always in it. There is a gritty quality to this side. They need to use their fullback more. He made some good breaks. Knox defence was the standout - though they looked a little flat. But in saying that I am probably not giving Trinity sufficient credit.

Back to the games on Saturday and some random thoughts on the games. St. Aloysius v Barker Probably the match of the round. At home Aloys will be tough, and though they went down to Trinity last week will put on a spirited match against Barker. As in other years their depth will be...

It is the ' it is the 'Senior School Academy' - a 4/5 story edifice for year 11/12 almost finished. And I think that finishes their current building phase, so the school stops being a building site. That said they also own most of the houses along that road from the station which may be redeveloped

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

It may not help with the number count, but would the fact that a lot of people watch their Super Rugby at pubs make a difference?

One thing of concern from the Knox/ Barker game came about from a perusal of the program. I was surprised at the lack of teams Barker had. In some age groups they only fielded four sides. That wasn't the case a few years back. The team numbers at Knox seemed to have improved from a few years...

It should be a great game. I think there is a perception that the strength of Knox will be their forwards, that of Waverley in the backs, but I think both teams are more balanced. Ignore the 'weaker' part of each side at your peril. With the sides Williams is 12 and their 13 is Armstrong...

    CAS Rugby 2015

Such a balmy, dryish and benign start of the day. I have a feeling a fair few may be disappointed and damp by day's end.

Some numbers for my predictions this week. Not that I am a betting person. Knox $1.70 Barker $3.10 Draw $12.00 Waverley $1.85 Trinity $2.30 Draw $12.00 Cranbrook $2.65 St Aloysius $1.90 Draw $10.00

I can't confirm the draw. Fortunately the 2015 isn't up for the soccer either, so it isn't as if it is just a rugby thing. I do know that Knox host Barker this week. So I am guessing Cranbrook at home to St Aloysius and Waverly hosts Trinity. I have only seen one side and a couple of...

Hurricanes Vs. Waratahs @ Wellington Round 10

A great game. Played at a Kiwi intensity and speed. Could be a good omen for the Tahs. I was disappointed with Horne - an unusually quiet/ poor game. How good in Beauden Barret though. Surely he would be the Ab's first choice 5/8???

Yes, Knox were a little underwhelming, though in saying that it may be possible we are underestimating St Pats. The scoreline could have and should've been bigger towards Knox, but they showed a lack of clinical finishing that would worry the coaching staff at Knox. But their defence was good...

Knox 27 St Pats 5. Five tries to one. In ways a lackluster game, but both sides would have appreciated the workout in the warm conditions. Knox string in defence but their attack didn't gel, as if they were trying too hard, over complicated things and lacked precision/finish. Would be happy...

My memory is failing me. Gosh 20 years ago. I saw that side play a few games. They were quite impressive. Unless my memory is failing again.

I think back in 1997 Knox got about 13 in the 1sts CAS and another 5 players scattered throughout the other CAS sides. They had a strong year - unbeaten in the opens in CAS. The firsts drew with Joeys and only lost to Newington I think, though scoring 3 tries or something to 1

I never thought of the connection between the player and coach until you brought it up - well done for pointing it out. But no idea. However from the two games I have seen J Williams' centre partner looks the most impressive of their backs at the moment - James Armstrong. Compared to their...

Knox play their now traditional away trial fixture against St Pats on the 18th. As St Pats also play against Trinity and maybe one other CAS school it should give some indication of relative strengths. It should be an interesting competition this year with the 'young' sides of last year...

    CAS Rugby 2015

I think the draw is the same as last year, but with the home sides switched. So the draw would be the same as 2013, which probably makes more sense than the first line. The season starts on the first weekend of May.
