Technically they couldn't, the ARU made it so that no stand alone clubs weren't allowed to take part, that's why syd uni had to join Balmain to form the stars. It was a good policy, unfortunately many still see the Vikings as a stand alone team including myself!

Well UC are the Brumbies major sponsor so don't think you can compare it to a partnership. Well the Vikings would get everyone spending money at their club when going to games for a start. And a pathway for their players.
