2013 Super Rugby Final - CHIEFS v BRUMBIES

The difference in tactics between these two is fascinating.

    Shute Shield 2013

Top 3 SS refs for me are Leckie, Gardner and Andrew Lees. They all work well with the players and keep them figuratively onside, whilst letting the game play itself out rather than being pedantic. Some of Leckie's chat with the players in the Easts v Wests TV game last week was great, really...

2013 Super Rugby Semi Final - Bulls vs Brumbies

I would do the same if more of the S15 games were covered on the radio in Australia.

2013 Super Rugby Semi Final - Bulls vs Brumbies

Just saw the end of the replay on Fox, will watch the full game later but I must say I found it quite hilarious to hear how forlorn the usually over-excited SA commentators were as the Brumbies stole the game.

2013 Super Rugby Semi Finals - Chiefs vs Crusaders

Said it earlier in the year, the Chiefs are THE team in NZ now, and they proved it last night by surviving such a brutal, intense game. Very disappointed for the loss but at least it was to the Chiefs who are a fantastic rugby team, and hopefully they do the business next week and go back to...

    Lack of manners/respect

I know the booing issue has been done to death, but I thi k a big part of how it is received comes down to how the boo-ee responds. e.g. the goalkicker who gets booed, but then slots it from the sideline, that makes people forget about and forgive the booing in a way. I think the fact that Quade...

    2013 – ITM CUP - NZ's 3rd Tier Competition

Fearless prediction time: Canterbury over Taranaki in the Premiership final, Tasman over Otago in the Championship final. Both rematches of 2012 semi finals I believe. Here's hoping that Fox cover all the games like they have in past years.

    Crusaders v Reds Prelim 1

That's probably my favourite thing about the Crusaders' style: all of their backs can slot in anywhere. In most of their games, every single Crusaders back will play first receiver, and they can all do it well, even the wingers. They have no pure hit-up merchants who can't pass and they benefit...

    For Sale: One Test 10

What a difference a week can make: going from starting at 10 in a decider against the Lions in front of 84000 people to sitting on the bench watching your soon to be former team (probably) get beaten by the 2013 Highlanders.

    Shute Shield 2013

ABC have put up a great video of highlights from the '05 Warringah vs Uni grand final back when the comp was split in two parts. It's up here - http://www.abc.net.au/news/sport/programs/shute-shield/ and also on their Facebook. I remember watching that game as an 11 year old thinking that the...

    Crusaders vs Chiefs

Izzy Dagg was immense, and props to Kieran Read for his two tries, and to Carter for becoming the first man to reach 1500 super points. How brilliant was Cruden's charge down/tap/regather/run in the lead up to the Chiefs first try though?

Are you saying I shouldn't pursue a career in standup comedy?

    James Horwill cited for stamping

Unbelievable. That's a very dangerous precedent. At least it means there won't be another important player missing the third test. It deserves to have two teams as close to full strength as possible.

    Shute Shield 2013

I thought Uni were playing 3 tests against the Lions in 2017 anyway?

    Shute Shield 2013

Uni won 35-11 and it was just a wee bit muddy, not sure if there's a match report up on the rugby news website or not.

Australia vs British and Irish Lions 2nd Test (Melbourne)

There must be some temptation to just switch JOC (James O'Connor) and Lealiifano, the latter just has more command at 10 IMO, and I don't think that switching them would be that big a disruption to the rest of the team. Wouldn't do it now though, but for the RC. You've got to leave things as they are for the...

Australia vs British and Irish Lions 2nd Test (Melbourne)

Absolutely, but I'm astounded he didn't get a week. Unfortunately you now get the ridiculous situation where he could be suspended, a week later on the IRB appeal, and miss the decider.

Australia vs British and Irish Lions 2nd Test (Melbourne)

The 'no way' was clearly just my opinion. I'm sure other people will think it was not worth a suspension.

Australia vs British and Irish Lions 2nd Test (Melbourne)

I know mate, I know. Look good on him, massive effort to play the full 80 in a winning side in a pretty torrid game, but after all the discussion of his stomp through the week it was my first thought.
