    International Eligibility

That is how I read it. IRB letter of explanation here: http://www.irb.com/mm/document/home/olympics/02/07/24/94/140708doeligibilityandreleaseforolympicevents-eventssubjecttoolympiccharter.pdf "For the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio, do any special provisions apply? Rugby Sevens will enter the...

    Tough stretch for NZ

The last 2 weeks has seen the long white cloud start to dissipate: First ever loss in any Commonwealth Games 7s match saw NZ finish with Silver. Two year reign atop Super Rugby halted by Waratahs. And last night the Women All Blacks lost for only the 2nd time ever in any Womens World Cup...

    Rugby 7s general chat

Odd, most League fans I speak with are familiar with Sevens and quite a few like watching it (especially over 15s), but there is always a few hardcore ones that hate rugby no matter what. Several IRB 7s coaches came from League backgrounds, and have all stated that 7s defense/attack more closely...

    Rugby 7s general chat

I know Hooper is on the ARU's watchlist for the Olympics/qualifiers. Gill, McMahon, Foley, and Hooper are definitely on their list from what they told me. Foley would have been included in CG squad if Waratahs were not in finals. Izzy is probably on the list as well, but its more media driven -...

Solid performance by the Aussies, taking Bronze. I missed the 3:44am match vs NZ, but did catch the Bronze medal match where they manhandled Samoa. Suffocating defense! All credit goes to the Blitzbok! Showed true guts against the Kiwis to win Gold. Not sure Aussies would have got past them in...

    Rugby 7s general chat

The boys did very well in Glasgow overnight. Great work rates and support play saw them easily handle the poms in the last pool match. Although, it seemed that the poms were making almost too many rookie type mistakes, penalised very often, even had 2 yellow cards for the penalties - not that...

    USA and Canadian Rugby

I hope Vancouver gets an IRB Sevens stop. Timing is the only real hang-up. It probably needs to be paired with the USA event, and USA likes the February date. It may be too cold in Vancouver in Feb. Mid-April would be a good compromise.

    USA and Canadian Rugby

Over 58,000 tickets sold already to the All Blacks v USA match! Nice payday for both NZ (1 million USD was guaranteed) and USA. I am sure the exciting style of rugby and come from behind win against Canada has boosted sales. Maybe we can stay within 50 points!

Qld Country - official NRC thread

I am a casual lecturer at Bond Uni in sport management while I finish my PhD thesis in 7s, and have seen the job posting for the Head Coach/Director of Rugby with $150-200K remuneration (pay, car, super, scholarship all considered). Bond is looking to leverage rugby in a serious way. I am...

    Rugby 7s general chat

Shalk Brits and Bryan Habana have been chosen for the South Africa Commonwealth Games squad. I wonder who Australia will bring? I doubt anyone that has not played 7s, but possibly Foley, McMahon, and Morahan. Titch also recalled 3 Super Rugby players that have been with NZ 7s. On another note...

    USA and Canadian Rugby

Carlin can play for the Eagles, if chosen. He has it in his Glasgow contract to be released. He has played a bit of 15s, scored a try on his debut for Ayr, but it was disallowed from a knock-on.

More on the interrelationship of 15s and 7s in Canada, and some insight into John's appointment with Australia...Foley and Izzy on the 7s pitch together...

    USA and Canadian Rugby

DTH was a wonderful 7s player! Pritchard also played 7s. The fact that most of the current 7s team also plays 15s for Canada helps tremendously. The player familiarity alone gives advantage, let alone the consistency in coaching across both codes-as you pointed out with Crowley and John working...

    Super 7s

The biggest obstacle they face is Tatham, who still owns the rights to ANY professional 7s in the USA. ANY, from 5s to 12s, indoor or outdoor. He is still paying USAR the sanctioning fee. So unless this group buys him out, then they cannot actually pay the players. Or this stays amateur (which...

    Rugby 7s general chat

It seems as though Geraint will be taking most of Eddy's duties: "The Australian Sevens program – both men’s and women’s – is moving to a new centralized base in Sydney and John is going to be right in the middle of it all. “It’s not just the head coach of the men’s program,” he said. “I’m...

    Super 7s

Prefer an English Premiership type format with 4-5 teams playing a round robin over 3 hours. Would still have to change substitute rules for shorter turn-around between matches, but its better than 2 teams playing 7s for 48 minutes.

    Rugby 7s general chat

The ARU 7s GM, Anthony Eddy, is leaving at the end of May. No word on why, and who will replace him. He was working on "a more structured Rugby Sevens strategy and annual calendar." as Hugh pointed out is needed.
