Scrub I get your point that as part of the Pooper combo that Hooper performs more of the carrying and linking role and Pocock the breakdown role but I think if you consider who you would want pulling the ball out of an under pressure scrum (God forbid) it would be poey. Hoopers great running...

I can see there being more of an argument for Holloway in a world where Hooper is injured, but even so I'd prefer to include McMahon, Mcalman and Gill in that order before him 1st choice 6 Fardy 7 Hoops 8 Poey 20 Big Dog Hooper injured 6 Fardy 7 McMahon 8 Pocock 20 Big Dog Poey injured 6...

    The Wallabies Thread

I'm going to put it out there that I don't think Holloway should or will play for the Wallabies in 2016. For me, he's your classic wing-forward. Great footballing skills but probably not the hardness and tackle/breakdown work rate you need to play 8 for Australia (at least not yet)

    Reds 2017

The Reds need a 10, 2 flankers, a 12 or 15 (depending on what they want to do with Hunt). They should be looking for a flyer out wide too (?fullback or wing)

    Reds 2016

I suspect if the Reds are savvy, the Churchie XV of 2014 may end up like the Southport XV of the mid-late 2000's where fully 8-10 of the players graduated to the professional ranks (mostly at the Reds I.e Slipper, Simmons, Morahan, Lance etc.) If Kalyn Ponga is at all half interested, Gilmore...

    Reds 2016

There is massive hype around him, but it's all pretty much justified. He's not worth millions but it's worth letting him know that rugby is still an option

    Reds 2016

I think Stilesy does a good job coaching his departments but from what I hear he's probably just not quite ready to take the step up to HC just yet. I hear the players like him and get a lot out of his coaching technically but feel he can be a bit childish and personal when dishing out negative...

    The Wallabies Thread

It's clear that the Wallabies main concern is in the 2nd row and wing spots. At lock Simmons is the incumbent and is doing ok, building into the season after some dodgy early form. He seems to go way better when he doesn't have too many roles to play and just plays to his strengths I.e run...

If McMahon has a genuine desire to come home then WE ACCOMODATE HIM . PERIOD! By the time Gill may want to return to QLD (1/2 way through 2018 at earliest) Higgers (if he even does come back) will be old, Tui will be gone, hopefully Browning remains but that's uncertain.

Well he'll be back next year ready to roll I suppose. Would have been nice to see him blooded in Super Rugby this year and play a full NRC

    Reds 2016

I've actually had the thought that the Reds should grab Nick Malouf. He's a Brisbane boy so would likely come for not much money, only 22 (actually was 1 year Gunny's senior at school) and at all the levels he's played (schoolboy, premier grade) he's been as much of a standout as a Gunn if not...

    HSBC 7's - Round 9 - Paris

Injuries have seriously thinned Australia's playmaking stocks. If Quade can negotiate it do these last two tournaments give him an opportunity to have a little run and try to settle into the playmaker role better with a view to giving the Olympics a last shake? Looking forward to seeing...

    Reds 2016

I actually think Jake is developing in the role of a Super Rugby 10 at the expected, acceptable rate. There is however no doubt that he isn't much of a threat ball in hand and has a pop gun boot. I suspect that in the end Jake's ultimate ceiling will not be due to lacking an amount of skill, knowledge or...

Yeah Nabuli it seems to me is an great athlete who clearly understands rugby fundamentals from his time on Fiji and has a basic understanding of playing on the edge from his league days. What is doubly pleasing is that he seems to be rapidly developing the positional instincts of a good Rugby...

I guess the point is you have to have balance, in the centers as a unit and in the backline as a whole between guys that carry strongly and guys that create/use space for others. You also can't pigeonhole your players into your preferred system, you create a system to best utilize the collective...

    Reds v Bulls. R8 2016

That kick was just good thinking and great execution. Heard the ref yell penalty advantage and thought to himself "ok, no risk here have a go Gilly you cheeky bastard". Worst outcome a penalty in halfway (that Jake would have missed most likely)

    The Wallabies Thread

Well it depends what you mean as "ball skills required for the position". If you want your 12 fix the inside defense, be able to turn the ball back inside or outside to runners off his hip, pull it behind to the full back as well as offload then I would say the Kuridrani does indeed have good...

    Rugby 7s general chat

He was one of the ones who left last year because they all thought that the ARU was going to stack the team with Folau, Quade, JOC (James O'Connor) etc. which has obviously turned out to not be the case. He was the forward I thought we definitely couldn't lose and it's bloody good to have him back

HSBC Sevens - Round 8, Singapore

Jeloudev and Hutchinson are the 7's premier flyers at this point. Pama Fou is the only one who could potentially force his way in. Porch etc. are all just filling spots while those blokes heal

Poey and McMahon are both good at the hard and dirty yards up the middle. Good enough that we're not losing much there compared to McCalman, Palu etc. it's just whether in the loose they offer the right balance. I think at this stage McMahon's form has to earn him jersey 20 or 21. It would not...
