    Refereeing decisions

I see your point, but how do you define a 'dangerous position'? How do you determine the level of control a player has in any collision? I don't think there's a perfect way to do it, and accept the current situation has its flaws.

Yes, it's different. As I understand it, once you determine the action was illegal/reckless, the landing point of the player determines the sanction - if it's on his back then it's a yellow, if it's neck/head it's a red.

But that's always been the case with these tackles, and with aerial challenges. The way the player lands dictates the sanction. It's not a perfect system but I'm not sure one exists. How do you determine intent with these things? You could argue the reason Owens didn't go through with the...

    RWC Pool D - Wallabies v Georgia, Friday 11th October, 9.15pm ADST

While I like Petaia, I still need to see a lot more of him before I'm chucking him in to start against a very good England back three in a World Cup QF. So far this year he's looked good for a bit against the Highlanders, and he's had a nice half against Uruguay. And that's it. He's still a...

    RWC Pool D - Wallabies v Georgia, Friday 11th October, 9.15pm ADST

What's the record for most 10s used in a World Cup? I have a dream FP - Beale starts the QF, JOC (James O'Connor) starts the semi-final, only to get injured as he scores the winning try. It leaves us with the logical World Cup Final option and sixth flyhalf for the tournament....... Mr Quade Cooper. You know...

I like the fact that we are continually changing our 10. It's a good thing we have played three different people there in four games. I'm sure the selectors have a firm idea of what they want in this crucial position as we head to the elimination games. Surely. Surely....... surely?

    RWC Pool D - Wallabies vs Uruguay -Saturday October 5 2019 @ 2:15pm

Here is some piercing analysis for you all: This was an entirely forgettable game, and we can draw virtually no lessons from it. That is all.

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

I normally subscribe to the belief that 'bad back play comes from bad forward play', but I can't cop that from this game. The forwards were making ground every time they had the ball. For some reason our 9/10 wanted to play wide off slow ball, which sets the forwards a bloody hard task, because...

I also think we still have a hangover from the 90s and early 2000s where Wales/Ireland/Scotland were plucky underdogs rather than genuine global powers. I'd wager most posters here (and fans in general) are of an age where we still expect to beat those sides every time, regardless of the XV we...

Another positive from a (thus far) disappointing campaign - Michael Hooper has clearly taken a step up as a leader. Tactically I think he's making the right calls, and his composure was key in the second half of the Fiji game. I am also becoming a fan of his referee communication. The...

Her decision-making is suspect. Mortdecai was a horrible film, and that should have been obvious on reading the script. And yet she chose to appear in it. That's why I'm not playing her at 10. .

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

I don't know why, but I'm optimistic. We'll have a new coach, who will hopefully be better at extracting talent out of our players. While Arnold is a big loss, we have a solid forward pack who are currently chewing up everyone they face. Kerevi is also a big loss, but there's enough talent...

Just leave it alone eastman. We've been down this rabbit hole before, and nobody wants to do it again.

I get that, but he was offside. I've seen refs call play on, but I've seen it penalised too. I don't think anyone can be too disappointed about it.

The last place we need change is in the forward pack, unless you're thinking of bringing LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) in for Pocock. I thought they were outstanding.

    Refereeing decisions

The issue with the Kerevi fend is not really the fend itself- I can understand why that's a penalty against Kerevi. It's the fact that this is the first time (to my eyes) they have decided to enforce this interpretation. We've seen fends penalised in the past, and people sent to the bin -...

    RWC Pool D - Wallabies vs Wales - Sunday 29 September 2019 @ 5.45pm

I think the maul has been one of the bright spots of the Cup so far, considering we haven't used it much over the past few years. We didn't score from it on the weekend, but we scored from an ensuing phase after drawing three penalties. That's pretty much mission accomplished to me.

    RWC Pool D - Wallabies vs Wales - Sunday 29 September 2019 @ 5.45pm

It was a pretty disheartening loss, wasn't it. Really felt we had that game in our grasp, but Wales were just too smart for us. Our forward pack may be as good as it's ever been, and to see it squandered like that brings a tear to this old second-rowers eye. Bring on the Dave Rennie era.

    RWC Pool D - Wallabies vs Wales - Sunday 29 September 2019 @ 5.45pm

I'm not sure I agree with that. I thought it worked fine. We dominated the tight spaces around the field, and any dominance Fiji gained during the first 20-30 had very little to do with our backrow. When Fiji began to tire, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) came on and played really well. I thought the tactics worked as...
