thank you: The Victorian government today will announce a massive rugby union deal that will bring Test matches to Melbourne on an almost yearly basis, but which also targets grassroots rugby, in particular the Pacific Islander community. This was the deal that helped swing the Australian Rugby...

I haven't been able to find it listed publicly. I am just going on what the newspapers wrote at the time. The output/milestone attached to that money is that an international test or tests will be played in Melbourne in the future. Other than that, spend it how you wish.

The Victorian gov did make a big cash commitment to the RA in exchange for Melbourne hosting some international games in the future. RA were under no obligation to pump that money into grass roots funding to grow the game and indeed, by all accounts they used it to pay their CEO $800,000 pa...

nice for people of Ballymore, but that is a stadium yes? What about some gov funding for grass roots funding? ACROSS Australia? That really is my point. Oh that's right, RA only need funds for big new stadiums in Bris and Syd cos we are shrinking to greatness

Actually the report claimed that about 1.48 million Australians play soccer and .25 million play rugby union. That's one sixth by my maths, not almost 10 times. And, fyi, my point was not to get into a discussion about whether we are more or less worthy of government grants, but that the Soccer...

    The Israel Folau saga

not sure of the answer to that question, however, at the Christian school that my son attended, there are quite a few openly gay teachers and some in senior leadership positions although none of those teachers have declared that they are atheists. At least one other teacher, though, has declared...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

to half and rugby nutter re private investment It is fair to say that one franchise has been down this path twice and both times the results were miserable. In the first instance, Melb Rebels was privately owned, but the restrictions placed on the franchise re who and when they could hire...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

well yes, broadcast deals are ratings driven. And again, we are back on the merry go round of why, why, why don't fans like super rugby? Or is it Australian Super Rugby? Because I actually enjoy watching the NZ derby every Fri and Sat night at 5.30 local time. - even if NZ fans aren't filling...

    Rd 13: Rebels v Reds @ Melbourne 10/5/19 7.45 pm

I am going to talk my book here, obviously, but I contend that Wessels and the coaching team have got the boys on track - they will play a tight game this week. Back home in Melbourne, their training this week will have them peaking perfectly for the game. The Reds seem to lack strategy aimed at...

he's not quick enough, he doesn't go through the gap and he gets isolated. He cant get involved in the tight play. Not his best game, not his worst game. Just how he plays. Every game.
