    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Hey, how about we keep this thread for discussions around broadcasting/TV rights/etc, and save the Third Tier discussions for one of the multiple other threads on that topic?

Brilliant work Reg. So, Tizzano in for Hooper, and the Tahs are unchanged from Super Rugby!

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Or for simplicity, how about we resurrect the Ricoh Cup and have the Super Rugby franchises play on during the international season, minus their Wallabies? It brings additional players into the Super Rugby squads, gives the squaddies some proper game time, and the infrastructure is all there already. Plus some...

    Waratahs 2022

So, this will generate some heat for the GAGR servers, if it happens: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/waratahs-wallabies-chase-beale-after-emotional-jersey-address-20211215-p59hru.html

    Australian Rugby / RA

I think this was discussed on this thread when the 9/Stan deal was being thrashed out. It seems like all the networks primarily use an external contractor to produce the broadcast, so it's really a matter of who pays that contractor - the league or the broadcaster. It's not like the A-League is...

    Refereeing decisions

It is difficult, but the current situation is bad. If three pairs of referee's eyes miss a clear knock-on in the lead-up to a try, then I think we're going to have to accept it. The inconsistency of which decisions use the TMO is the biggest frustration. When the video of Beale's knock-on is...

    England v Australia - Twickenham, 14 Nov, 4:30am AEDT

Ahh, I see elective surgery is back to full capacity Cyclo, you're obviously getting busy with the clippers again.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Sticking the NFL theme, rugby broadcasters - or maybe the host teams - should consider releasing additional footage for amateur analysts to work with. The NFL has given the option for fans to view the "All 22" footage, wide angle showing every player on the field on every play. Youtubers like...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Yes. I reckon the NBC Sunday Night Football game is the pinnacle of live sports broadcasting - excellent commentators, and just incredible production values.

    Refereeing decisions

I should have taken a moment to Google - looks like pre-binding was addressed in the global law trials for 2021-22, which also introduced the 50:22 kick and the goal-line drop-out. Assuming those trials were in place for this match - seems pretty clear it should have been penalised as a flying...

    Refereeing decisions

During the TMO review, Poite decided that the player in front still had possession of the ball at the time of contact with the defender. Scotland 7 definitely had his hands on the ball as well, but I don't think any angle conclusively showed that the player in front had released it prior to...

    England v Australia - Twickenham, 14 Nov, 4:30am AEDT

Eddie's experimenting with his "next-generation" team at the moment, perhaps he's testing out next-gen mind games as well. Jaco has no control over the breakdown at the best of times. I suppose Eddie's thinking "good contest" = white jerseys flooding in from all directions, lying over the ball...

Scotland vs Australia - Murrayfield, 8 Nov 1:15AM AEDT

Or Rob Horne? (Because a comparison to a Tahs player is better)

That is a massive gamble indeed. The article doesn't state what Silver Lake get for their money, but if it's like the NZRU deal, they'll take 30% of the A-League revenue - that's a huge chunk of money disappearing every year. Good luck earning it back.

    Waratahs 2022

C'mon BH, you can't remove one of the oldest tropes of Waratahs forum threads - "this Sydney-grown player should have been picked up by the Tahs recruiters years ago, despite showing no outstanding talent at the time. Tahs recruitment sux!"

He's a talent, but the best bit would be RugbyReg's response.

    Refereeing decisions

Is the current law a problem though? It's not like there's an epidemic of drop goals spoiling games. Attempting a droppie is already high risk.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/perese-grateful-for-bumpy-journey-to-cusp-of-wallabies-debut-20211013-p58zmy.html Good story about Perese here. And also worth noting that Georgina Robinson is back on the beat for the SMH.

Wallabies v Argentina Sat 2 October CBus Stadium

I'll stand corrected, then - shame, that would have been a great effort from the local community.
