    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

They can always bring in journos like GeeRob as part of a panel show, pre-game show, etc, like Ch7 does during the cricket. Lou Ransome does work with ABC now, but they refer to her as a "freelance reporter". Anyway, good group.

Yes, it's really important to see what approach Stan take to engaging the audience. The talent is good, but like you say with Drew, it depends whether they are pushed to be intelligent, analytical, and welcoming to a wide audience, or allowed to just run with the stupid inside jokes. E.g. Ch9...

    Waratahs 2021

It didn't sound good when Tom Robertson said "there's a lot of off-field issues at the Tahs" when he joined the Force late last year. I hope they can get it sorted out, because there's inevitably going to be some tough times this year - but the nucleus of a really good team for the future.

At least the new sponsorship is cashing in on what we've said about the Tahs for years: "@$#! Fracking Tahs!!!"

Intriguing. Why more people for 4K? To shovel all those pixels into the pipe?

    Australian Rugby / RA

Funny, it seems people are keen to whinge every year when the new jersey comes out. But if RA tries to engage people in that design process, also whinging. I think it's a handy bit of media for rugby in a dead period of the pre-season - Tahs v Brumbies trial was to be on this weekend, but...

Conuter-argument? Perhaps $10/mo is way too cheap. If UFC can convince people to cough up $55 to watch a 2 minute street brawl, surely $10/mo is sending the wrong price signal.

    Too many Tahs.

Yes, $24 for Stan Sport isn't perfect if you're comparing it against $25 for Kayo, but Stan will have a much higher Spouse Appreciation Factor, and that's a key selling point.

    Australian Rugby / RA

No, I meant the national teams (Eng, Ire, Sco, Wal, SA) coming to Australia this year, possibly with the Lions tour happening in SA in 2022. The Lions tour would be a little different to most big sporting events, the broadcast rights are still crucial, but somewhat less so. The tourist income...

    Australian Rugby / RA

I think RA is positioning this as the first option if the Lions tour is cancelled, and the southern winter opens up for the B&I teams. Whilst I'm sure they could manage some sort of bubble arrangement for the Lions tour in South Africa, if the Lions play the Springboks in front of an empty...

    Waratahs 2021

And don't forget we have a very good coaching team, who've now had a season with much of the squad. Penney and Gilmore are both noted for their ability to develop young players.

OK, I still don't get the attraction of private equity money. It's not free money. They will have no interest in their money propping up any part of the business that's not making a profit. "Injecting capital into all levels of the game"? Why would private equity want to do that? I'm sure it's...

Adam84, some really interesting information in your posts, thanks very much. The dominance of Netflix is remarkable, now almost twice as many viewers as Foxtel, how quickly that has changed. For rugby, going with Stan is really not much of a step-down in terms of reach compared to Foxtel at...

"Five Eight" ? Old school, except even then it was "Five-Eighth".

    Waratahs 2021

Thanks for that, it was 25 minutes of interesting listening, not just the bit about Rob Penney. It does line up with what others have said, that Penney is a good coach of young players. Which lines him up perfectly with the 2021 Tahs.

    Wallabies 2020

Stopping the clock just makes for a better excuse to waste time - the time's not coming off the clock, but it's still dull to watch reset after reset. Have a look back at games from the early 2000s, before the "crouch-touch-pause-engage" sequence was introduced - it's still in the professional...

    Shute Shield 2021

Perhaps this would be better in a Shute Shield 2022 thread, but Eastwood is off to Castle Hill, supposedly from 2022: https://eastwoodrugby.com.au/2020/11/25/new-home-ground-for-the-woods/

    Wallabies 2020

True, but experience over those 25 years shows that not all players live up to this expectation, and not all coaches enforce it. I think one of the biggest challenges of coaching must be motivating players to deliver 100% every day during a long pre-season, and late in the season when...

    Wallabies 2020

Rennie is all about workrate - Cheika talked about it quite a bit when he was at the Tahs and Rennie at the Chiefs, the Chiefs were seen as the standard to be challenged. Possibly Rennie is doubling down on it in his first season, to make a statement for all players heading in to 2021 - work...
