For what its worth a few observations on this year. Sad to see some of the really good off field staff leave over the last few months. Sam Cordingley to the Reds, Christine Finnegan the GM Commercial to St Kilda,Matt Tink who has done a fantastic job with junior development to Japan. Hard to...

NSW on the verge of another bailout

The ARU run a shared service call centre located at ST Leonards that takes all the calls for the teams and processes all of the memebership applications. Certainly the teams set their own programs, fees , benefits etc. However ARU staff man the membership line , receive the payments and then...

NSW on the verge of another bailout

The ARU actually run the membership program for the Rebels, Waratahs and Reds and only disbursed the payment for membership proceeds after taking out the Lions match component.

NSW on the verge of another bailout

The teams agreed on a flat figure depite the fact that clearly some matches drew better gates. The big winner out of this was the Brumbies. The big loser the Reds.

NSW on the verge of another bailout

The payment was 500k . Same for each state. ARU made signficantly more from these games

Very sad for the Rebels re Sammy but good luck to him.One of the best blokes and smartest Rugby brains you'd ever meet. He has a fantastic future ahead of him in Rugby admin.Big gap to fill at the Rebs

Not a fan of Pyle really for a leadership role. Hard to go past Burgo amongst the back line division I reckon but if Stirzys form has him starting could do worse than make him vc. He is a very mature , together lad.

Always interesting to see the way things are spun. The previous CEO cut over 2 million off the player salary bill between 2011 and 2013. Also reduced the operating loss by 4million over the period. Also commenced negotiations with Tony Mcgahan in fact I understand he wanted to replace Hill with...

Ben Mowen survives alleged mutiny plot.........

Worked in Rugby admin for a while and can tell you every story written by Brett Harris over that time was nonsense. Guy is a disgrace of a human. No wonder Wayne Smith can't stand him.

Some really disapointing news from the Rebels camp. Tom Sexton has done his ACL and will be out for the season . Probably the position they have the least amount of depth in.

Vuna was under contract for 2014 and was released. He is very money focussed , has an extended family he supports and takes the view that he has to chase the cash while it's available because there won't be the same opportunities after rugby. A good guy and wish him the best.

    JOC (James O'Connor) Gooonne

The depth of the dislike of JOC (James O'Connor) from his team mates has always amazed me . His behavior in general is nowhere near as bad as Beale , but his team mates just don't like him. He can be quite a charming kid . However he just really believes he is the best Rugby player in the world and the normal...

There were no issues with Rory other than a decision to bolster up the midfield with the signing of Ellison as a preference Nothing sinister just a decision based on squad depth

Phipps departure is due to his and his agents greed. Plays a couple of tests due to Genias injury and thinks he is a wallaby. Due to his ridiculous demands , Cordingley sources Burgess an established international player and he signs for significantly less than the myth that is Phipps. There is...

    Rebels 2014

A very emotive but frustrating topic. Rugby last time I noticed is now a professional sport . Unfortunately it shouldn't be at Shute Shield level as the vast majority of clubs at this level do not have the means to pay players. Therefore if a player wants to earn a living they have to join a...

    Rebels 2014

I continue to be amazed that the Rebs and more importantly the ARU allowed Foley to back out on a signed letter of intent. It is unprecedented in Aust Rugby for a player to back out at this point. Goes to the quality of the young man unfortunately though. Disappointing .

As much as Nonu or Marshall playing for the Rebels as me. No marquees coming , looking at the value for money types now.

    Rebels 2013

The quote from Rob on front is incorrect. There was never any offer made to Beale by the former CEO . In fact even before the SA debacle he recommended to the Board that Beale not be resigned and that they announce that intention then. It was basically the ARU that would not permit the Rebels to...

    Rebels 2013

From someone who has been on the inside the basic problem with the Rebels has been trying to operate a start up sporting franchise that is privately owned with a complete lack of capital and a governing body willing you to fail from the start. Also quite amazing that people who are successful...

    Rebels 2013

Culture is a much over used and misunderstood term in sport in my opinion. However there has clearly been a culture change at the Rebels since the SA debacle . Well done to all involved for a fantastic second half of the year. Rebel for life !
