I've decided to try this in 2013 for the first time. A rookie question - if I have a player as a reserve, how do I swap them into my starting lineup - is this counted as a transfer?

We have a couple of options but may opt to just run with two trials - pre-season is already pretty long so having one less game may not be the disadvantage it seems.

No it doesn't - only meets the first. The RUPA proposal will not get up because the Super Rugby teams want their Academy / Wider Training Squad players to train with them not at an academy/ uni or club that is outside their control.
