If you could change the laws of rugby, what would you change?

Yes, but then you would then be incentivising illegal play that makes it look like the other team has infringed. TH binding on the arm, FR's pulling back on the engage, standing up when you are going forward etc. Prior to the new laws, I would say that more often than not when the LH was pinged...

If you could change the laws of rugby, what would you change?

I would take away the right of the tackler to get up and play the ball from any angle. Whilst it is a good law in principle it is simply too hard to referee properly. Referees constantly get it wrong - both ways, mind - and I think players lack the confidence to go for it because they don't...

    JOC (James O'Connor) Gooonne

Jamie Joseph isn't likely to put up with much, but then he didn't exactly sort Nonu out either this year. I think on balance I would pass on him coming to the Highlanders. If he did come he would have to be on his best behavior, or he can go jump in the lake.

All Blacks v Wallabies, Dunedin, 19th October 2013

I think memories of the corresponding game from last year will prevent any complacency setting in. They will not want that to happen again. I think it'll be a reasonable game, but a comfortable win in the end.

Another Pumas try now and its all on.

You're having a laugh. An E team maybe. Maybe.

don't have to be bound over the ball, just in physical contact to form a ruck. Marginal call for sure and probably wrong, but Hooper might have been touching the Argie. Regardless, it was risky from Horwill and a low % play.

Which errors are you referring to? He got more right than any referee I have seen this year. All the TMO decisions were correct. He is entitled to look at the big screen and make up his own mind if he thinks he can, and remember he asked if the TMO agreed with it.

What are you on about? Owens was excellent. I haven't read this thread but if there are a bunch of people complaining about him that would be an indictment of this forum and rugby fans in general.

ARU moves to kill off club player payments: A 3rd tier, club rugby and the $60k persuader

Yeah but he has had the misfortune of running into another young halfback (I forget the name) so he hasn't been getting as much gametime as he would have wanted. I think Stirzaker will be a Wallaby next year.

Springboks v All Blacks, Johannesburg, Oct 5th 2013

We would have played there in 2010 and last year, but for the simple fact that: Soccer City (FNB Stadium): Capacity 94,713 Ellis Park: Capacity 62,567 Wherever they play the AB's are the main money spinner for a rugby union, and so they will want to put them in the biggest stadium. At...

    Ewen McKenzie: Wallaby Coach

Nick Far Jones was on RadioSport saying something similar this morning, but he said he couldn't reveal the story yet. I guess I will just have to wait for an unethical journalist to leak it - shouldn't be too long.

Time to revamp cards to Yellow, Orange, Red ?

That is the problem. Referees do hesitate to do it because it is perceived to be too long. You can argue all you like about how it isn't too long, or that it shouldn't be too long, or that 10 minutes does fit the crime, but the reality is that history and practice shows otherwise.

    Springboks v Wallabies, Newlands, September 28 2013

I already answered this above, but here it is in graphic display: Note how on this occasion Horwill catches the ball, so the lineout isn't over and the Bok running out of the lineout is therefore offside. Although the ball does pop out earlier than Horwill would have wanted, he still...

Time to revamp cards to Yellow, Orange, Red ?

I have said before that 10 minutes is too great a punishment for cynical/repeat infringements and that is why they don't get used enough. Give the ref a green card worth 5 minutes (or until a try is scored) and you will see refs make much better use of them.

    Ewen McKenzie: Wallaby Coach

There are 7 more games to go for the Wallabies this year. If McKenzie wins 0 of these games then he should be sacked. Any other result and he should get another go next year.

Pumas v All Blacks, La Plata, September 28 2013

When was the last time the All Blacks conceded 4 tries? Not a rhetorical question; I genuinely can't remember an occasion where it happened. I think it must have been before the 2007 RWC or possibly even the 2003 one.

For all our faults, and issues there is no better team at taking opportunities than the All Blacks.
