    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

The thing I love about a good Wallaby win is how interstate rivalries are put the the side and we all just celebrate the Wallabies success. :)

Wilson isn’t in the squad at the moment either

I know he’s talked about giving guys opportunities, but I tend to think Schmidt will stick with largely the same team. Maybe a change or two but otherwise give them some chance to build cohesion. He’s presumable picked what he thinks is he best team up front so giving them time to gel seems a...

Win first up with lots of solid contributions. I like the fact that the win seems built around solid fundamentals - good scrum, good lineout and a focus around breakdown work that has maybe been lacking. Added bonus that the Wallaroos were excellent in their game v Fijiana. Good game to watch.

PS if Valetini spends tonight smashing Welshmen like skittles happy to take all the scorn and ridicule tomorrow

Anyway - rather than talk re specific players I found it interesting this week watching a rugby league coaching video where they were actively discouraging a player from dropping his height at contact and to stay tall. The rationale being it kept there head out of harms way and also helped...

Yeah - I know. And it wasn’t me who was critical of him last year. I actually think I defended him a few times. But my recollection was that other people were. If I’m wrong - so be it. As I said, I get why it seems an odd point to be raised given the multitude of other issues but if you look at...

It’s possible to compare two players and not say they are the same.

I understand that reaction - Valetini’s work in contact isn’t in my top 50 issues. But I do think it’s something he can be guilty of - and I believe there was plenty of commentary last year that people thought he wasn’t as effective. I do think it’s a bigger issue for Lukhan. It’s possible both...

Haha - well, I guess that IMO body height into contact is one of those basics but, to me, it’s always been something that’s confused me as to how we get players at international level that don’t have good core skills for their position like body height, lineout throwing, passing both sides etc...

    Waratahs 2025

I get what you are saying - but it seems to me that whatever the issues are down there, everyone is convinced it is someone else and not them.

Wasn’t the story that McKellar got moved on from Leicester because he wouldn’t bow to authority? We really need to NSW to sort their shit out, but it’ll be interesting how he goes with the politics.

How long before McKellar starts calling for the consolidation of the Brumbies into the Waratahs set up?

Body height in contact has been something Salakai-Loto has struggled with historically. Will be interesting if he can get that right. I’ve always thought he was the lock from the last 5-6 years with the highest ceiling (well - maybe Hockings but his time here as too brief to be considered...

I still have concerns Lynagh is being thrown in a bit early - but happy to back Schmidt’s experience. Otherwise looking forward to seeing how they go. It would be nice to have a 23 full of experienced World XV players but we haven’t had that for some time. Looking forward to the second coming...

I guess the bit I like is that they aren’t completely green but have experience to fall back on. Flook & Williams are 22 & 23 but have been around a couple of years. Guys like Wright, Pietsch, Blyth, Lolesio, Gordon all have been around for a while. Charlie Cale & Lynagh are the only real...

Article says Frost to miss out. Must admit I’m amazed by Blyth’s sudden ascension up the ranks given he was injured for most of the season and, even when he wasn’t Kiss didn’t appear in a hurry to pick him. Maybe making sure he was fully fit? And I’m a fan - just seems to have come from no...
